Travatan/Travoprost
Travatan (Travoprost) is a medicine that is used in ophthalmology to decrease intraocular pressure and prevent the progression of glaucoma. It is used in the form of eye drops that are applied directly to the eye. Travoprost is a powerful drug that works by increasing reabsorption of aqueous humor. Aqueous humor is a fluid that occupies the anterior chamber and posterior chamber of the eye. The disturbed balance between the production and reabsorption of aqueous humor causes ocular hypertension, which in turn is the main risk factor for the appearance of glaucoma. If ocular hypertension is not treated, the course of glaucoma accelerates, which can lead to irreversible loss of vision.

About Travatan
Travatan contains travoprost which is part of a group of medicines called prostaglandin analogs. It works by decreasing the pressure in the eye. It can be used alone or with other eye drops, for example with beta-blockers, which also reduce pressure on the eye. Travatan contains travoprost which is part of a group of medicines called prostaglandin analogs. It works by decreasing the pressure in the eye. It can be used alone or with other eye drops, for example with beta-blockers, which also reduce pressure on the eye.
Travatan is used to reduce high pressure in the eye in adults, adolescents, and children from 2 months of age. This pressure can lead to a disease called glaucoma.
When intraocular pressure increases, it damages the retina (the light-sensitive membrane located in the back of the eye) and the optic nerve, which sends signals from the eye to the brain. This can produce severe vision loss and even blindness. By lowering the pressure Travatan reduces the risk of suffering such damage. The active substance in Travatan, travoprost, is an analogue of prostaglandin (an artificial copy of prostaglandin, a group of substances naturally present in the organism). Prostaglandins in the eye increase drainage of aqueous fluid (aqueous humor) outside the eyeball. Travatan works in the same way and increases the flow of liquid from the eye, which helps reduce intraocular pressure.
Travatan is indicated for the reduction of intraocular pressure. Travatan eye drop uses include being utilsed in adults with open-angle glaucoma (a disease in which eye pressure increases because fluid cannot drain intraocular) and in adults with ocular hypertension (when the eye pressure is higher than normal). It can also be used in children from two months with hypertension or glaucoma in children.
The recommended dose is a drop in the affected eye or eyes, once a day - at night.
Travatan should only be applied to both eyes if your doctor tells you to. Follow the treatment for the entire period of time indicated by your doctor or the treating doctor.
Travatan should only be used as drops for your or children's eyes.
- Immediately before using a bottle for the first time, open the packaging bag, remove the bottle) and write the date of opening in the space reserved on the box.
- Wash your hands.
- unscrew the cap.
- Hold the bottle upside down between your fingers.
- Tilt the child's head or head back slightly. Gently separate the eyelid from the eye with a finger, until a bag forms, into which the drop should fall.
- Bring the tip of the bottle close to the eye. A mirror may be helpful.
- Do not touch the eye, eyelid, proximal areas, or other surfaces with the dropper, as the drops could become infected.
- Gently squeeze the bottle so that one drop of Travatan falls each time.
- After using Travatan, gently close your eyes, gently press your finger to the edge of the eye, next to the nose for at least 1 minute. This helps prevent Travatan from passing to the rest of the body.
- If drops are applied to both eyes, repeat the above points for the other eye.
- Close the bottle tightly immediately after using the product.
- Use only one bottle at a time. Do not open the bag until you need to use the bottle.
If a drop falls out of the eye, try again.
