What is Ilube?

Ilube drops are used to relieve dry eyes when not enough tears are produced. The active ingredient acetylcysteine is combined with hypromellose to soothe the eyes by increasing lubrication and acting as artificial tears. The drops also work to break down any sticky mucus that could be preventing the production or distribution of tears. Ilube (Acetylcysteine) eye drops are available by prescription. Ilube eye drops consist of 2 active two active ingredients, acetylcysteine and hypromellose, both of which are known as eye lubricants. Acetylcysteine is a derivative of the naturally occurring amino acid L-cysteine. It works by breaking down any thick and sticky mucus on the surface of the eye. The other ingredients include Disodium edetate, Hypromellose, Benzalkonium chloride, Sodium hydroxide, and Purified water.

How does it work?

Ilube (Acetylcysteine) works as an eye treatment medication by reducing the adherence of tears. acetylcysteine is combined with an ingredient called hypromellose that smoothes and lubricates the surface of the eye. These two ingredients together act like artificial tears. The drops alleviate the dryness and eye pain associated with some dry eye conditions and make your eyes feel more comfortable.

What are the benefits of taking it?

Ilube eye drop uses include acting as an artificial tear helping to treat dry eyes. This is thanks to eye drops containing the active ingredient acetylcysteine that works to break down any sticky mucus so that the eye is easier to lubricate.

How do I use it and its dosage?

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist again.

You should not use the container if the security seal is broken when you first open the product. Wash your hands before opening the container. The usual dose of Ilube consists of one or two drops administered to the affected eye three to four times a day.

  1. Wash your hands before using the drops
  2. Remove the yellow plastic disc, metal ring, and black rubber stopper from the top of the eye drop bottle. Then, remove the plastic dropper from the package and carefully, but firmly, push it towards the top of the open
  3. Remove the plastic cap from the dropper
  4. Tilt your head back slightly and pull the lower eyelid down to form a pocket
  5. Hold the bottle upside down with the dropper close to your eye. Try not to touch your eye while doing this
  6. Gently press the center of the dropper to release a drop. Use a second drop if the first drop did not get into your eye
  7. Close your eye for a minute or two, and gently press on the side of your nose where the corner of your eye meets your nose. This helps prevent the drop from draining and keeps it in your eye
  8. Repeat the process on the other eye if you have been told to use the drops in both eyes
  9. Replace the plastic cap to protect the dropper
