Ganfort eye drops unit dose contains two different active ingredients (bimatoprost and timolol) that reduce high pressure in the eye. Bimatoprost belongs to a group of medicines called prostanoids, an analog of prostaglandins. Timolol belongs to a group of medicines called beta-blockers. The eye contains a clear, watery liquid that maintains the inside of the eye. This fluid is continuously drained from the eye and new fluid is generated to replace it. If the fluid doesn't drain quickly enough, the pressure inside the eye increases and your vision could be damaged in the long term (a condition called glaucoma). GANFORT unit dose works by reducing fluid production and also increasing the amount of fluid that drains. This reduces the pressure inside the eye.

What is Ganfort?
Ganfort is used to reduce intraocular pressure. It is used in adult patients who have "Open-angle glaucoma" or ocular hypertension that does not respond sufficiently to eye drops ophthalmic drugs containing beta-blockers or prostaglandin analogues (other medicinal products) used for these ailments). "Ocular hypertension" means pressure in the eye that is higher than usual. In glaucoma of open-angle, the cause of the high pressure lies in the fact that the eye does not drain enough liquid. This medication can only be dispensed with a prescription.
How does it work?
Ganfort eye drops work by Increasing intraocular pressure causes damage to the retina (light-sensitive membrane in the back of the eye) and on the optic nerve that sends signals from the eye to the brain. This can produce severe vision loss and even blindness. By reducing the pressure, Ganfort reduces the risk of suffering these injuries.
Ganfort contains two active ingredients, bimatoprost, and timolol, which decrease eye pressure through different mechanisms. Bimatoprost is a prostaglandin analog (copy of the natural substance prostaglandin) that works by increasing fluid drainage from the eye. Timolol is a beta-blocker that works by reducing fluid production in the eye. The combination of these two active ingredients has an additive effect, reducing the pressure in the eye to a greater degree than each one of the components separately.
What are the benefits of taking it?
Ganfort eye drops are used to treat elevated eye pressure in adults, including the elderly. Such high pressure can cause glaucoma. Your doctor will prescribe GANFORT unit dose if other eyedrops containing beta-blockers or prostaglandin analogues have not had sufficient effect on their own.
