Simbrinza/Brinzolamide+Brimonidine

Simbrinza is an ocular solution containing two active ingredients: brinzolamide and brimonidine tartrate. Simbrinza is used to reduce intraocular pressure (pressure inside the eye) in adults with ocular hypertension (high intraocular pressure) or in people with an eye disease called open-angle glaucoma. Simbrinza is used when treatment has been tried with other medications that contain only an active ingredient, but the intraocular pressure has not been sufficiently reduced. The recommended simbrinza eye drops dosage is one drop in the affected eye or eyes twice a day. Use it at the same time each day. Wash your hands before you start.

About Simbrinza

Simbrinza contains two active ingredients, brinzolamide, and brimonidine tartrate. Brinzolamide belongs to a group of medicines called carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, and brimonidine tartrate belongs to a group of medicines called alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonists.

People also ask

What is Simbrinza?

Simbrinza contains two active ingredients, brinzolamide, and brimonidine tartrate. Brinzolamide belongs to a group of medicines called carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, and brimonidine tartrate belongs to a group of medicines called alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonists. Both active ingredients work together to reduce the pressure inside the eye.

How does it work?

Simbrinza contains two active ingredients: brinzolamide and brimonidine tartrate. These two components decrease intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma (GAA) and ocular hypertension (HTO) by reducing the formation of aqueous humor in the ciliary processes of the eye. Although both brinzolamide and brimonidine decrease IOP by reducing aqueous humor formation, they do so by different mechanisms of action.

Brinzolamide works by inhibiting the enzyme carbonic anhydrase (AC-II) in the ciliary epithelium of the eye, which reduces the formation of bicarbonate ions, which leads to a reduction in the transport of sodium and fluid through the ciliary epithelium. The result is a decrease in the formation of aqueous humor. Brimonidine, an alpha-2 adrenergic agonist, inhibits the enzyme adenylate cyclase and suppresses cAMP-dependent aqueous humor formation. Additionally, the administration of brimonidine produces an increase in uveoscleral outflow.

What are the benefits of taking it?

simbrinza eye drop uses include being indicated to reduce pressure in the eyes in adult patients (18 years of age and older) who have eye diseases known as glaucoma or ocular hypertension and in those who cannot effectively control high pressure in the eyes with other medicine.

How do I use it and its dosage

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor, ophthalmologist (oculist) or pharmacist has told you. If in doubt, consult your doctor, ophthalmologist (oculist) or pharmacist again.

Just use SIMBRINZA on your eyes. Do not swallow or inject.

The recommended simbrinza eye drops dosage is one drop in the affected eye or eyes twice a day. Use it at the same time each day. Wash your hands before you start.

  1. Shake well before using.
  2. Unscrew the cap on the bottle. After removing the cap, the seal ring must be removed before using this medicine.
  3. Do not touch the dropper with your fingers when opening or closing the bottle, as the drops may become contaminated.
  4. Hold the bottle upside down between your thumb and middle finger.
  5. Tilt your head back.
  6. Gently separate the lower eyelid from the eye with a finger, until a pocket forms into which the drop should fall.
  7. Bring the tip of the bottle close to the eye. It can be helped with a mirror.
  8. Do not touch the eye, eyelid, proximal areas, or other surfaces with the dropper, as the drops may become contaminated.
  9. Gently press the base of the bottle so that a drop of Simbrinza falls.
  10. Do not squeeze the bottle: it is designed so that a gentle pressure at the base is sufficient.

After using this eye drop, gently close your eyes and press the edge of your eye, next to your nose, for at least 2 minutes. This helps prevent the medicine from passing to the rest of the body.

If drops are applied to both eyes, repeat the above points for the other eye. It is not necessary to close and shake the bottle between administrations of both eyes. Screw the cap tightly on the bottle immediately after using the product.

If you are using other eye drops as well as Simbrinza, wait at least five minutes between applying Simbrinza and the other drops.

If a drop falls out of the eye, try again.
