Betnesol/Betamethasone/ Betamethasone+Neomycin

Betnesol eye drops, a bacterial eye infection treatment medication is indicated for the treatment of specific eye diseases, in which it is considered appropriate to combine the local action of a corticosteroid with the bactericidal activity of neomycin and Beclomethasone dipropionate, therefore Betnesol has its main indications in uveitis, scleritis, episcleritis, conjunctivitis, interstitial keratitis, tarsitis, stye and chalazion when these entities are caused by bacteria sensitive to the aforementioned antibiotics.

Beclomethasone dipropionate has local anti-inflammatory activity. Corticosteroids in general, in cutaneous use, have immunosuppressive properties and inhibit inflammatory and allergic skin reactions, as well as reactions associated with hyperproliferation, leading to remission of objective symptoms (erythema, edema, exudation) and relieve subjective discomfort (itching, burning sensation, and pain). Corticosteroid activity occurs in part by binding to a steroid receptor. Neomycin sulfate is a broad-spectrum bactericidal aminoglycoside antibiotic that acts by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit. In general, it is active against the vast majority of gram-negative and some aerobic gram-positive bacteria. It is inactive against fungi, viruses, and most anaerobic bacteria.

Betnesol drop uses include being indicated in the treatment of infectious eye inflammations caused by organisms that are sensitive to Neomycin Sulfate and Beclomethasone, These symptoms include Non-purulent conjunctivitis, acute or chronic blepharoconjunctivitis, and keratoconjunctivitis. In addition to Non-specific superficial keratitis, deep keratitis, acne rosacea keratitis. Iridocyclitis. Moderate acute arthritis, Recurrent marginal ulcer, Corneal ulcer, Non-purulent blepharitis, and Esceritis episcleritis.

Always use this eye swelling treatment medication exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist again. The recommended dose is:

Use in adults (including elderly patients)

Instill 1 or 2 drops into the conjunctival sac 4 or 6 times a day. The dose may be reduced after 3 or 4 days if a satisfactory response has been obtained.

1. Wash your hands.
2. Take the bottle (dropper container).
3. Shake well before using.
4. After opening the bottle for the first time, you must remove the plastic ring from the seal if it is loose.
5. Hold the bottle upside down between your fingers.
6. Tilt your head back. Gently separate the eyelid from the eye with a finger until a pocket forms between the eyelid and your eye, into which the drop should fall.
7. Bring the tip of the bottle close to the eye. A mirror may be helpful.
8. Do not touch the eye or eyelid, proximal areas, or other surfaces with the dropper. The drops could become contaminated.
9. Gently squeeze the base of the bottle with your index finger so that one drop falls at a time.
10. After using this medicine, release the eyelid, close your eye and gently press your finger to the edge of the eye next to the nose. This helps prevent this medication from passing to the rest of the body.
11. If drops are applied to both eyes, repeat all of the above steps with the other eye.
12. Close the bottle tightly immediately after using the product.

If a drop falls out of the eye, try again.

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Effects in the eye:

• inflammation of the surface of the eye, increased pressure in the eye, itchy eye, eye discomfort, eye irritation

The following side effects have been observed during and after using this medicine.

Effects in the eye:

• corneal ulcer, blurred vision, sensitivity to light, increased size of the pupil, drooping of the eyelid, pain in the eye, swelling in the eye, abnormal sensation in the eye, redness of the eye, increased tear production.

General effects:

• allergy, headache, severe skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome).

Hormonal problems:

• Excessive growth of body hair (particularly in women), muscle weakness and wasting, purple striations on the skin of the body, increased blood pressure, irregular or absent menses, changes in the body's protein and calcium levels, growth retardation in children and adolescents and swelling and weight gain of the body and face (Cushing's syndrome)

Warnings and precautions:

This medication is not indicated in children younger than 5 years, children are more susceptible to systemic toxicity by exogenous corticosteroids than adults, due to greater absorption as a consequence of a high value of the ratio of surface to body weight. Suppression of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and Cushing's syndrome, among other effects, have been reported in children undergoing topical corticosteroid treatment. Avoid contact with the eyes, deep open and mucous wounds, in intertriginous areas where absorption increases. Avoid use in occlusive therapy. Risk of glaucoma from the use of topical corticosteroids (eg after excessive application, with the use of occlusive bandage techniques or after application to the skin around the eyes). Allergic reactions with aminoglycosides have been described. Prolonged use can lead to a proliferation of non-sensitive microorganisms, including fungi, in which case treatment should be discontinued and appropriate therapy instituted. The use of neomycin in case of prolonged use, in large areas or in the presence of skin lesions, can lead to systemic effects such as ototoxicity and nephrotoxicity.
