How Does Ozempic Semaglutide Work?

Ozempic is the brand name of the medication Semaglutide, which also the active ingredient in this drug. It belongs to a class of drugs called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonists. These drugs are majorly used for the treatment of Type-2 diabetes.

Type-2 diabetes is a chronic condition. It happens when your body is either not synthesising enough insulin (a hormone responsible for maintaining normal levels of glucose in the blood) to keep blood glucose levels in check or your body resists the effects of insulin. GLP-1 agonists work by mimicking and copying the natural work of hormones called incretins. Incretins are a group of hormones that control the functions of the pancreas. GLP-1 agonists act on the pancreas and aid it in the release of insulin, which helps regulate the post-food blood glucose levels.
