Olmetec is a medicine, whose active substance olmesartan is classified as an angiotensin II receptor antagonist. Angiotensin II is a substance that gradually narrows the blood vessels. This means that you cannot perform this function. This causes the blood vessels to expand again. The medicine is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). If not treated, high blood pressure can cause other serious illnesses, such as B. stroke, heart, or kidney failure. Doctors often prescribe preparation along with advice for a different lifestyle.

What is Olmetec?

Olmetec belongs to the group of medicines known as angiotensin II receptor antagonists. Lowers blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels.

How does it work?

Olmetec Plus is a combination of an angiotensin II receptor antagonist, olmesartan medoxomil, and a thiazide diuretic, hydrochlorothiazide. The combination of these components has an additive antihypertensive effect, lowering blood pressure to a greater degree than each component separately.

A daily dose of Olmetec Plus provides a gradual and effective decrease in blood pressure during the 24-hour dose interval.

Olmesartan medoxomil is a selective orally active angiotensin II receptor (type AT1), antagonist. Angiotensin II is the main vasoactive hormone of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and plays a fundamental role in the pathophysiology of hypertension. The effects of angiotensin II include vasoconstriction, stimulation of aldosterone synthesis and release, cardiac stimulation, and renal sodium reabsorption. Olmesartan blocks the vasoconstrictor and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II by blocking its binding to the AT1 receptor in tissues, including the vascular smooth musculature and the adrenal gland. The action of olmesartan is independent of the origin or the synthesis route of angiotensin II. Selective antagonism of angiotensin II (AT1) receptors results in increased plasma renin levels and angiotensin I and II concentrations, and decreased plasma aldosterone concentrations.

What are the benefits of taking it?

Olmetec is used in the treatment of high blood pressure (also known as hypertension) in adults, and in children and adolescents from 6 to less than 18 years of age. High blood pressure can damage blood vessels in organs such as the heart, kidneys, brain, and eyes. In some cases, this can lead to heart attack, heart or kidney failure, stroke, or blindness. Normally, high blood pressure has no symptoms. It is important to control your blood pressure to avoid damage.

How do I use it and its dosage?

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist again.

The recommended Olmetec dose is one 10 mg tablet daily. In the event that blood pressure is not adequately controlled, your doctor may increase the dose to 20 mg or 40 mg per day or prescribe additional treatment.

In patients with mild to moderate renal impairment, the maximum dose is 20 mg once a day.

The tablets can be taken with or without food. Take the tablets with a sufficient amount of water (for example, a glass). If possible, take your dose at the same time each day, for example at breakfast time.

Children and adolescents from 6 to less than 18 years of age:

The recommended starting dose is 10 mg daily. If the patient's blood pressure is not adequately controlled, the doctor may decide to change the dose up to 20 or 40 mg once a day. In children weighing less than 35 kg, the dose will not exceed 20 mg once a day.
