Co-Amilofruse

Co-amilofruse should not be taken if you are:

• Allergic to any of the ingredients in the medication
• Breastfeeding
• Suffering from severe kidney or liver issues
• Experiencing dehydration or low urine output
• Diagnosed with primary adrenal insufficiency or Addison’s disease
• Have an imbalance in potassium or sodium levels in your blood

Co-amilofruse can, in rare cases, cause liver-related problems such as intrahepatic cholestasis and acute pancreatitis. If you notice symptoms like yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, extreme tiredness, or pale stools, contact your healthcare professional immediately.

It is advisable to take Co-amilofruse with food to reduce the chance of gastrointestinal discomfort. Avoid taking a high-sodium diet or medications like soluble paracetamol, as these can reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. Additionally, you should avoid potassium-rich foods, as Amiloride, an active ingredient, reduces potassium loss and may lead to hyperkalaemia.

You must keep Co-amilofruse tablets above 25°C. Store it in a tight container away from moisture conditions and ensure it is out of reach of children. Also, do not use this medication after the expiry date to avoid dangerous health complications.

While taking Co-amilofruse, certain medications should be avoided due to potential drug interactions. Please see the list of a few medications along with the reasons stated below:

• Ramipril or Losartan can increase the risk of hyperkalemia (high potassium levels). Using potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements may not only result in hyperkalemia but also cause cardiac-related problems.
• NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen, may reduce the effectiveness of Co-amilofruse and can impair kidney function.
• Corticosteroids retain the levels of sodium, which diminishes the potency of the diuretic.
• Amiloride tablet, which is also part of Co-amilofruse, can lead to excessive amount of potassium levels in the body.

In adults, especially those with kidney problems or diabetes, or those taking medications like Amiloride, Co-amilofruse may cause an accumulation of potassium, leading to hyperkalaemia. This can affect cardiac function, so it is important to take regular tests of potassium levels while taking Co-Amilofruse.
