Progynova is used in hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to treat menopausal symptoms (the period of time when a woman's reproductive function and menstruation end), which can be induced naturally or surgically (castration), such as hot flushes, nocturnal sweats, and urogenital abnormalities (atrophic vulvovaginitis). If your uterus is intact, oestrogen treatment, such as Progynova, must always be followed with the sequential administration of a progestogen.
Progynova patches work by delivering a steady dose of estradiol, a synthetic form of the estrogen hormone, through the skin and into the bloodstream. Estrogen is an important hormone that plays many roles in the female body, including regulating the menstrual cycle, maintaining bone density, and controlling cholesterol levels.
During menopause, estrogen levels in the body naturally decline, which can lead to a variety of uncomfortable symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, and vaginal dryness. By providing a source of estradiol, progynova patches can help to alleviate these symptoms and improve quality of life for women going through menopause.
There are many benefits to using progynova patches as opposed to other forms of hormone replacement therapy (HRT):
Convenience: Progynova patches are applied once a week and can be easily incorporated into a daily routine, without the need for daily administration or remembering to take a pill.
Steady hormone levels: Unlike oral HRT, which can lead to fluctuations in hormone levels throughout the day, progynova patches provide a consistent and steady dose of estradiol throughout the day.
Reduced risk of blood clots: Studies have shown that transdermal HRT, such as progynova patches, have a lower risk of blood clots compared to oral HRT.
Lower dose of hormones: Progynova patches deliver a lower dose of estrogen compared to oral HRT, which may be beneficial for women who require a lower dose of estrogen or are at increased risk of side effects from higher doses.
Better absorption: Progynova patches are designed to deliver the estradiol directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the liver, which can improve the absorption and effectiveness of the hormone.
Overall, progynova patches can be a safe and effective option for women who are looking for a convenient and steady delivery of estrogen to manage their menopausal symptoms. However, it is important to discuss the potential risks and benefits of progynova patches with your healthcare provider before starting any form of HRT.
Progynova TS (Transdermal System) patches are easy to use and are applied directly to the skin. Here is a general guide for using these patches:
-
Choose a clean, dry area of skin on your lower abdomen, hips, or buttocks where the patch can be applied. Avoid areas of skin that are oily, irritated, or have any cuts or rashes.
-
Open the packet and remove the patch from the protective liner.
-
Apply the patch to the chosen area of skin and press down firmly to ensure it sticks well. Avoid touching the sticky side of the patch with your fingers.
-
Remove the release liner from the patch and discard it.
-
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after applying the patch.
-
Wear the patch continuously for 7 days, then remove it and replace it with a new patch. Repeat this process every week, applying a new patch on a different area of skin to avoid irritation.
It is important to follow the instructions provided by your healthcare provider and the package insert carefully when using progynova TS patches. They will provide you with specific dosage instructions based on your individual needs and medical history.
If you have any questions or concerns about using progynova TS patches, or experience any side effects, speak to your healthcare provider for further guidance.
