Trisequens
Trisequens is a hormone replacement therapy (HRT), also called hormone therapy (TH). It is used to treat menopausal symptoms in women. Trisequens tablets contain estradiol (estrogen) and norethisterone (progestin). These hormones restore the hormonal balance in the body, and therefore reduce the symptoms of menopause. Trisequens is a prescription-only medicine. Trisequens helps to alleviate the physical and psychological symptoms of menopause. At the age of approximately 45 years, the ovaries produce less and less estrogen and for this reason their levels in the body decrease.

Trisequens is an HRT medication suitable for women experiencing menopausal symptoms that can be moderate to severe. It is generally recommended when periods are inconsistent or have stopped altogether. You should not use Trisequens if you have a history of certain cancers, liver disease or blood clots, as this may potentially exacerbate your condition or affect the effectiveness of any medicine you are currently using for these conditions. Our qualified UK clinicians will ensure that the medicine you are requesting is appropriate for you and compatible with any current medications you may be taking, before prescribing this HRT treatment for menopausal symptoms.
What is trisequens?
Trisequens is a sequentially combined hormone replacement therapy (HRT) that is taken every day without interruption. Trisequens is used in postmenopausal women whose last natural period occurred at least 6 months before use.
Trisequens contains 2 hormones, an estrogen (estradiol) and a progestogen (norethisterone acetate). The estradiol in Trisequens is identical to the estradiol produced by a woman's ovaries and is classified as natural estrogen. Norethisterone Acetate is a synthetic progestogen that acts similarly to progesterone, another important female sex hormone.
How does it work?
The active substance, synthetic 17-estradiol, is chemically and biologically identical to human endogenous estradiol. It substitutes the loss of estrogen production in menopausal women and relieves menopausal symptoms. Estrogens prevent bone loss after menopause or ovariectomy.
Norethisterone Acetate
Synthetic progestogen with actions similar to those of progesterone, a natural female sex hormone. Because estrogens promote endometrial growth, estrogens without increasing the risk of hyperplasia and endometrial cancer.
What are the benefits of taking it?
Trisequens uses include being indicated to:
Relieve symptoms that occur after menopause
During menopause, the amount of estrogen produced by a woman's body drops. This can produce symptoms such as heat on the face, neck, and chest ("hot flashes"). Trisequens relieves these symptoms after menopause. You will only be prescribed Trisequens if symptoms seriously hamper your daily life.
Prevent osteoporosis
After menopause, some women may have brittle bones (osteoporosis). You should discuss with your doctor what options are available.
If your risk of fractures due to osteoporosis increases, and there are no other medications that are right for you, you can use Trisequens to prevent osteoporosis after menopause.
The experience in treating elderly women (over 65 years) is limited.
How do I use it and its dosage?
Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
If you are not switching from another HRT product, you can start treatment with Trisequens any day that suits you. If you are switching from another hormone replacement therapy product, ask your doctor when you should start treatment with Trisequens.
Take one tablet once a day, at about the same time each day.
Each pack contains 28 tablets
- Days 1 to 12 Take one blue tablet each day for 12 days
- Days 13-22 Take one white tablet every day for 10 days
- Days 23-28 Take one red tablet every day for 6 days.

When you have finished the container, start a new container to continue the treatment without interruption. You will usually have to bleed similar to menstruation (period) when starting a new container.
Your doctor will attempt to prescribe the lowest effective dose and for the shortest possible time to provide relief from symptoms. Talk to your doctor if you think the dose is excessive or insufficient.

Yes, Trisequens can help with sleep problems during menopause due to its ability to relieve symptoms such as night sweats and insomnia. Trisequens functions is to balance oestrogen and progestin, which may help improve sleep quality if taken consistently over time. Regular use of this medicine can also help reduce the frequency of hot flushes, which may also disrupt sleep.
If you miss a dose of Trisequens, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is close to the time of your next dose, skip the missed one and continue with your treatment as normal. Doubling a dose will increase the risk of potential side effects, so be sure to only take what has been recommended by your healthcare professional. Missing doses may affect your treatment, so make sure to take this routinely so you can achieve better symptom control and hormone balance.
Trisequens contains both oestrogen and progestin and is usually prescribed to patients when their uterus is still present. Women who have had a hysterectomy in the past are more likely to be prescribed an oestrogen-only form of HRT. Make sure that you consult your healthcare provider before starting any HRT to determine whether Trisequens is appropriate for your situation.
Yes, you can travel abroad with Trisequens tablets. Keep the medication in its original packaging with the dispensing label for easy identification. - Limit alcohol consumption and avoid smoking, as this may hinder the effectiveness of your HRT treatment.
- Adopt stress and sleep management techniques, which can also support symptom relief.
