What is Elleste?
Elleste Duet is a hormone replacement therapy (HRT) that is used for women in menopause or postmenopause. Elleste Duet tablets contain estradiol (an estrogen hormone). This active ingredient supplements hormonal deficiencies, alleviating the symptoms of menopause. This HRT treatment medication is a prescription-only medicine.
How does it work?
In blood plasma, most estradiol is bound to sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), and also to albumin. Only a fraction of 2.21% (+/- 0.04%) is free and biologically active, the remaining percentage remains constant throughout the menstrual cycle. Deactivation includes conversion to less active estrogen, such as estrone and estriol. Estradiol is the main urinary metabolite. Estradiol is conjugated in the liver by the formation of sulfate and glucuronide and, as such, excreted through the kidneys. Some water-soluble conjugates are excreted through the bile duct and are partially reabsorbed after hydrolysis of the intestinal tract. This enterohepatic circulation contributes to the maintenance of estradiol levels.
What are the benefits of taking it?
Elleste is one of the hormone replacement therapies (HRT). This HRT contains estradiol hemihydrate, which is an estrogen (a female hormone). Elleste Solo is for postmenopausal women experiencing menopausal symptoms and, when other medications are not appropriate, they are used to stop the development of osteoporosis (bone fragility).
How do I use it and its dosage?
Elleste is supplied as a tablet (dose: 1 mg or 2 mg) or as a skin patch (transdermal) (dose: 40 μg or 80 μg). The dose you will be given will be adequate for your symptoms. Estradiol enters the blood through your digestive system when you swallow a tablet or through your skin when you apply a patch.
Tablets
If you have regular periods, the tablets start on the first day of bleeding; if you have irregular periods, the tablets can start at any time. Swallow one tablet whole every day, preferably at the same time, with a glass of water. Take the tablets in sequence as directed on the foil strip, and when you finish the strip, start another strip the next day.
Patches
If you have regular periods, the patches start within 5 days after the first day of bleeding; If you have irregular periods, the patches can start at any time. The patches should be attached to clean, dry, undamaged, normal skin below the waist (for example, the buttocks or lower back) and never near the breasts. Remove the patch from the bag, then peel off the smaller back cover on the adhesive side and adhere to the chosen skin area.
As you flatten the patch with one hand, remove the remaining back cover with the other hand and press firmly. Change the patch every 3 or 4 days (on the same days every week), using two patches per week. Fold the old patch, place it in the empty package, and dispose of it responsibly. The patch will not come off when bathing and showering if it is firmly attached.
