Propiverine is an antispasmodic agent authorized for the symptomatic treatment of urinary incontinence and/or increased urinary frequency and urgency in patients with bladder syndrome hyperactive. It acts through a double mechanism, as a nonspecific receptor blocker cholinergic and as a blocker of voltage-dependent calcium channels of type L. In patients with urge incontinence, cholinergic blockade reduces the detrusor's contractile capacity, increases the tolerance to bladder filling and, therefore, decreases the frequency of urination and episodes of urgency and incontinence; this effect is complemented by the blocking of calcium channels in cells smooth muscles, which results in a muscle relaxant effect at the bladder level.
Known as a urinary incontinence treatment, Propiverine is a medicine with an anticholinergic activity that is used to treat 'urinary incontinence and overactive bladder syndrome. As it acts as an antagonist of the muscarinic receptor and inhibits the passage of intracellular calcium. It is a generally well-tolerated medication that can also be used in children and adolescents.
