What is Emselex?

Emselex is a medicine containing the active ingredient darifenacin. It is presented in tablets extended-release (7.5 mg and 15 mg). The term 'extended-release' means that the Darifenacin is slowly released from the tablet over several hours.

How does it work?

Emselex's active ingredient, darifenacin, is an anticholinergic drug. It blocks a receptor called the 'M3 muscarinic receiver'. In the bladder, this causes the muscles that expel urine out of the bladder, resulting in an increase in bladder capacity and changes in bladder contraction, resulting in fewer contractions. Of this Emselex way prevents involuntary urination.

What are the benefits of taking it?

Emselex belongs to a class of medications that relax the muscles of the bladder. Emselex Tablets uses include being indicated for adults to treat symptoms of the overactive bladder - such as a sudden urge to urinate, frequent need to urinate, or inability to hold it until reaching the toilet (urge incontinence). All of these symptoms can occur in the same patient.

How do I use it and its dosage?

Follow exactly the instructions for use of Emselex indicated by your doctor. Consult your doctor pharmacist if you have questions. If you think that the action of Emselex is too strong or weak, tell your doctor or pharmacist.

The recommended starting dose, including patients older than 65 years, is 7.5 mg daily. Depending on your response to Emselex, your doctor may increase your dose to 15 mg daily, two weeks after the start of treatment.

These doses are suitable for people with mild liver problems or for people with kidney problems.

Take Emselex tablets once a day with water, every day at approximately the same time.

The tablets can be taken with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole. You should not chew, break, or crush it.

How long to take Emselex

Your doctor will inform you about how long the Emselex treatment will last, do not stop the treatment sooner because you do not see an immediate effect since the bladder needs some time to adjust. Inform your doctor if you have not observed any effect at the end of the prescribed treatment.

If you take more Emselex than you should

If you have taken more tablets than prescribed, or if someone else accidentally takes your tablets, you should see your doctor or hospital immediately. People who have taken an excessive dose may have a dry mouth, constipation, headache, indigestion, and a dry nose. Overdose with Emselex can lead to severe symptoms requiring emergency treatment in a hospital.
