Always take Kentera exactly as your doctor has told you. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have doubts.
Apply a new Kentera patch twice a week (every 3 to 4 days) as directed. Always change the patch the same two days, for example on Sundays and Wednesdays, or on Mondays and Thursdays. On the inside of the Kentera pack, you will find a calendar to help you remember when your dose is due. Mark the days when you have decided to apply the medication and do not forget to always change the patch on the same two days of the week that you have chosen. Make sure you only have one patch on your body at a time and keep it applied permanently until the time you have to change it for a new one.
Apply the patch to a clean, dry, smooth area of the skin of the abdomen, hip, or buttocks. It is not recommended to apply the patch on the waist, due to the risk of rubbing against tight clothing. Do not expose to the sun. Place the patch under clothing. Toggle application locations in each new application. Do not reapply another patch on the same site for at least a week.
Each patch is wrapped separately in a protective envelope. Read the following instructions before applying Kentera for the first time.
To apply Kentera:
Step 1: Choose an appropriate place to apply the patch.
- Freshly washed skin, but dry and fresh (wait a few minutes after a hot bath or shower).
- Where you have not applied talc, lotions, or body oils.
- Where there are no cuts, rashes, or other forms of skin irritation.
Step 2: Open the envelope containing the patch.
- Tear the bag with the arrows located on the right side of the envelope, as indicated in the drawing.
- Do not use scissors to cut the bag: it could damage the patch.
- Remove the patch from the bag.
- Apply it immediately on the skin; do not keep the patch out of the sealed envelope.
Step 3: Apply half of the patch to the skin.
- Gently fold the patch and peel off one half of the protector that covers the adhesive surface of the patch.
- Without touching the adhesive surface, apply the adhesive part to the skin of the selected place on the abdomen, hip or buttocks and apply pressure.
Step 4: Apply the other half of the patch to the skin.
- Fold the patch on itself, pressing on the coating.
- Pull lightly on the coating to lift the edge.
- Hold the edge by one of its corners and remove the second half of the protector. Try not to touch the sticky side of the patch.
- Press your fingers over the entire patch for at least 10 seconds to fix it securely. Make sure that the entire patch is adhered to the skin, even on the edges.
- Discard the coating protectors.
Bath, shower, swimming, and exercise:
You must wear the patch continuously until a new one is applied. Bathing, showering, swimming, and exercising will not affect the patch as long as you don't rub it when you wash. Avoid staying in the tub for a long period of time, as the patch could come off.
If the patch comes off:
If the patch begins to separate from the skin, apply light pressure with your fingers. The patch has been designed to reattach itself. On rare occasions, the patch can be completely peeled off. In that case, try putting that patch back in the same place. If the entire patch sticks tightly, leave it on. If not, remove it and put a new patch in a different place. Regardless of the day it occurs, follow the same twice-weekly schedule that is marked on the patch box.
If you forget to change the patch after 3-4 days:
As soon as you remember, remove the old patch and apply a new one to a different place on your abdomen, hip, or buttocks. Regardless of the day it occurs, stick with the same twice-weekly regimen for your next patch, even if you need to change it within 3-4 days.
How should you remove it
To change it, slowly remove the used patch. Fold it in two (with the sticky side facing in) and dispose of it so that it is out of the reach of children and pets. The application site may be slightly reddened, but the redness should disappear a few hours after removing the patch. Consult your doctor if irritation persists.
