People also ask

What is FML?

Fluorometholone, commonly known as FML, is an eye treatment drug, which is often prescribed by ophthalmologists. It is available in the form of suspension (eye drops) as well as ointment. It is used to relieve symptoms of eye conditions caused by injury or inflammation. Eye drops are effective in terms of reducing itching, redness and swelling. The medicine comes from a specific category of drugs called corticosteroids.

It is used as eye redness medication as well as eye swelling treatment to provide quick relief and cure inflammation gradually.

How Does FML Work?

Your eye contains sensitive tissues, which may cause it to go through inflammation when it suffers an injury, or has a surgical procedure performed on it. This inflammation can result in redness, swelling, burning sensation, or itching, which can cause major discomfort apart from visibility problems.

Fluorometholone or FML acts as an anti-inflammatory agent to provide relief from the above symptoms.

What Are the Benefits of Taking FML?

There are many benefits of using FML including:

  • Available in both eye drop and ointment form
  • Easy to use eye treatment with anti-inflammatory properties
  • Treats eye redness, swelling, itching, and discomfort

How Do I Use FML?

Do not use FML for eye treatment without a prescription from your doctor. The correct way to use FML is as follows:

  • Prior to every use, do not forget to shake the eye drop bottle
  • Use your fingers to open the affected eye and bring the dropper close to it using your other hand
  • Put the prescribed number of your drops into the pocket created between your eyeball and lower eye lid
  • Now, close your eyes softly and gradually
  • Put your index finger on the inner corner of the eye for a minute
  • Ensure that the dropper does not touch anything including your eye and do not attempt to clean or wipe the dropper
  • Store the eye drop bottle safely as prescribed in the leaflet

Before your use FML, remember to take your contact lenses out as eye drops may get absorbed by them which can lead to irritation. If you are also using some other eye medication, for instance ointments or drops, at least wait 10 minutes before applying them. Always use eye drops before applying ointments so they can enter your eye.

FML Dosage

The dose of FML varies based on patient and their condition. If your doctor has not given any instructions, refer to the guidelines provided in the leaflet. Keep in mind that these are general guidelines and if a doctor has suggested a different dose, you should not change it on your own.

The number of eye drops you should use depend on a variety of factors including medicine strength, frequency of doses, time between doses, and the condition you are trying to treat. If you miss your FML dose, use it as soon as your remember. Do not double your dose if it is already time for the next dose.
