Vistamethasone/Betamethasone

The immunosuppressive activity of corticosteroids is due to the fact that they alter the function of the lymphatic system, reducing the concentrations of immunoglobulins and complement, inhibiting the transport of the immunocomplexes through the capillary membranes, reducing the number of lymphocytes and interfering with the reactions of antigen-antibody.

Vistamethasone is a type of medicine called a corticosteroid (or steroid). Corticosteroid medications are used to reduce inflammation.

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Immune system disorders: Anaphylactic reactions, hypersensitivity reactions.

Endocrine disorders: Menstrual irregularities, development of the cushingoid state (full moon face, trunk fat), lack of secondary and pituitary adrenocortical response (particularly in periods of stress such as trauma, surgery, or disease), manifestations of latent diabetes mellitus and increased of the requirements of insulin or oral hypoglycemic drugs in diabetics.

Metabolism and nutrition disorders: Sodium retention, potassium loss, hypokalemic alkalosis, fluid retention.

Psychiatric disorders: Euphoria, mood swings, depression, personality changes, insomnia.

Nervous system disorders: Convulsions, increased intracranial pressure with papilledema usually after treatment, headache (headache).
