What is Vesomni?
Vesomni is a combination of two different medications called solifenacin and tamsulosin in one tablet. Solifenacin belongs to a group of medicines called anticholinergics, and tamsulosin belongs to a group of medicines called alpha-blockers.
Vesomni is used in men to treat both moderate to severe filling symptoms and lower urinary tract emptying symptoms caused by problems related to the bladder and enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia). Vesomni is used when previous monotherapy treatment for this condition failed to adequately alleviate symptoms.
How does it work?
When the size of the prostate increases, urinary problems (emptying symptoms) may appear such as delayed urination (difficulty initiating urination), reduced urine flow (weak stream), dripping, and feeling of incomplete emptying of the bladder. At the same time, the bladder is also affected and spontaneously contracts at times when urination is not desired. This causes filling symptoms such as changes in bladder sensation, urgency (having a sudden, strong urge to urinate without warning), and having to urinate more frequently.
The main active ingredient in Vesomni is Solifenacin, this compound reduces involuntary bladder contractions and increases the amount of urine your bladder can store. So you can wait longer before you have to go to the bathroom. Tamsulosin allows urine to pass more easily through the urethra and facilitates urination.
What are the benefits of taking it?
Vesomni uses include being prescribed to men with retention or urination problems. Urination problems such as urinary indecision (difficulty initiating flow), weak or intermittent flow, dripping after urination, and incomplete emptying of the bladder can be a symptom of an enlarged prostate gland. Bladder problems can cause symptoms of retention, such as frequent urination or urgency (an urgent need to urinate that cannot be delayed). Vesomni helps alleviate those symptoms. It is usually administered when the patient does not experience improvement after treatment with products of a single active ingredient.
How do I use it and its dosage?
Always use this Genitourinary medication exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist again.
The maximum daily Vesomni dosage is one tablet containing 6 mg solifenacin and 0.4 mg tamsulosin, taken orally. It can be taken with or without food, depending on your preferences. Do not crush or chew the tablet.
If you take more Vesomni than you should
If you have taken more tablets than prescribed, or if someone else accidentally takes your tablets, contact your doctor, pharmacist or hospital immediately for advice.
In case of overdose, your doctor may treat you with activated carbon; Emergency stomach lavage can be helpful if performed within one hour of the overdose. Do not induce vomiting.
Overdose symptoms may include dry mouth, dizziness, and blurred vision, seeing things that are not there (hallucinations), over-excitability, seizures, shortness of breath, increased heart rate (tachycardia), inability to empty completely or partially the bladder or to urinate (urinary retention) and/or unwanted increase in blood pressure.
Side effects & precautions
Like all medicines, Vesomni can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The most serious side effect that has been seen infrequently (which may affect up to 1 in 100 men) during treatment with Vesomni in clinical studies is acute urinary retention, which is a sudden inability to urinate. If you think you may have it, see your doctor immediately. You may need to stop taking Vesomni.
Vesomni can cause allergic reactions:
Infrequent signs of allergic reactions may include a rash (which may be itchy) or hives (hives).
Rare symptoms include swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue, or throat that can cause difficulty swallowing or breathing (angioedema). Angioedema has been reported rarely with tamsulosin and very rarely with solifenacin. In the case of angioedema, Vesomni treatment should be permanently and immediately discontinued.
If you experience an allergic crisis or a severe skin reaction (eg blistering and peeling of the skin), you should inform your doctor immediately, and stop using Vesomni. The appropriate treatment and/or measures must be applied. The following section details the known Vesomni side effects and their frequency:
Common side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10 men)
- dry mouth
- constipation
- indigestion (dyspepsia)
- Dizziness
- Blurry vision
- Fatigue
- Abnormal ejaculation (ejaculation disorder). This means that the semen is not released through the urethra, but goes to the bladder (retrograde ejaculation) or that the ejaculated volume is reduced or non-existent (ejaculatory failure). This phenomenon is harmless.
- Dizziness (nausea)
- Abdominal pain
Uncommon side effects (may affect up to 1 in 100 men)
- Drowsiness

- Feeling dizzy or weak especially when standing up (orthostatic hypotension)
- Runny or blocked nose (rhinitis)
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Fatigue (asthenia)
Rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 men)
- Accumulation of large amounts of hardened stool in the large intestine (fecal impaction)
- Fainting (syncope)
- Skin allergy-causing swelling of the tissue under the skin's surface (angioedema)
Very rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 men)

- Allergic skin reaction (erythema multiforme)
- A lasting and painful erection (usually not during sexual activity) (priapism)
- Skin rash, inflammation, and blistering of the skin and / or mucous membranes of the lips, eyes, mouth, nasal passages, or genitalia (Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
Frequency not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data)
- Decreased appetite
- High levels of potassium in the blood (hyperkalemia) which can cause abnormal heart rhythm
- Increased pressure in the eyes (glaucoma)
- Irregular or abnormal heartbeat (QT interval prolongation, Torsades de Pointes, atrial fibrillation, arrhythmia)
- Fast heart rate (tachycardia)
- Shortness of breath (dyspnea)
- During an eye operation due to the clouding of the lens (cataracts) or increased pressure in the eye (glaucoma), the pupil (the black circle in the center of the eye) may not increase in size appropriately. Also, the iris (the colored part of the eye) can become flabby during surgery.
