What is Ikorel?

Ikorel contains a substance called nicorandil, which belongs to a group of medicines called "activators of potassium channels". It works by increasing blood flow through the blood vessels of the heart. Improves the supply of blood and oxygen to your heart muscle and reduces your Workload. Ikorel is used to prevent or lessen the symptoms of painful exertion (angina pectoris) of your heart disease. It is used in adult patients who cannot tolerate or cannot take heart medications called beta-blockers and/or calcium antagonists. Nicorandil is the main active ingredient and the only ingredient in the medication.

How do I use it and its dosage?

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. In case you’re in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist again. The nicorandil indications and general guidelines are as follows:

The recommended dose.

The usual starting dose is 10 mg twice a day. If you are particularly prone to headaches, your doctor may prescribe a lower dose, such as 5 mg twice a day, for the first few days (2-7 days).

Your doctor may increase the dose up to 20 mg twice a day depending on your needs, your response to treatment, and your tolerance to it.

Preferably take one dose in the morning and one dose in the evening. Swallow the tablet (orally). Do not remove or separate the tablet from the blister strip until you are ready to take it. The 10 mg tablet can be divided into equal doses. In the 20 mg tablet, the slot is for splitting the tablet only if you find it difficult to swallow whole.

Do not swallow the desiccant, which is the largest tablet located at one end of each blister strip. The desiccant is included in the pack to protect the <Invented name> tablets from moisture. In the blister clearly indicates which tablet the desiccant is.

Side effects & precautions

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not all people suffer them. See your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following problems:

Nicorandil can cause injuries to your digestive tract, such as ulcers in your mouth, tongue, stomach, intestine (small and thick), and rectum. This can cause problems such as bleeding (blood in the stool or vomit), fistula (abnormal tube-like passage from one body cavity to another or to the skin), perforations, abscess, and weight loss. Ulcers can appear in other locations, such as the skin, the genital tract, and nostrils, or around a stoma (in those with an artificial hole for waste removals such as a colostomy or ileostomy).

Warnings and precautions

Nicorandil can current in part through the nitrate component of the molecule, which can be the trigger of methemoglobinemia through an oxidation process. However, the CHMP is of the opinion that the degree of oxidation may not be clinically relevant, as only one case of methemoglobinemia with the use of nicorandil, Therefore, a Contraindication, although the CHMP has requested the inclusion of a warning phrase.
