About Tamiflu Tablets

Oseltamivir is used to treat symptoms caused by the flu virus (influenza). It helps make the symptoms (such as stuffy nose, cough, sore throat, fever/chills, aches, tiredness) less severe and shortens the recovery time by 1-2 days.

This medication may also be used to prevent the flu if you have been exposed to someone who already has the flu (such as a sick household member) or if there is a flu outbreak in the community.

Tamiflu is indicated in adults and children including full term neonates who present with symptoms typical of influenza, when influenza virus is circulating in the community. Efficacy has been demonstrated when treatment is initiated within two days of first onset of symptoms.

What is Tamiflu?

Tamiflu is used in adults, adolescents, children, and infants (including full-term newborn babies) for the treatment of influenza (influenza). It can be used when you have flu symptoms and the flu virus is known to be present in the population.

Tamiflu can also be prescribed to adults, adolescents, children, and infants over 1 year of age as a flu medication on a case-by-case basis, for example, if you have been in contact with someone who has the flu.

Tamiflu may be prescribed to adults, adolescents, children, and infants (including full-term newborn babies) as a preventive treatment in exceptional circumstances, for example, if there is a global flu epidemic (a flu pandemic) and when the seasonal flu vaccine Flu cannot give enough protection.

The flu is an infection caused by a virus. Flu signs often include sudden fever (over 37.8 ° C), cough, runny or stuffy nose, headaches, muscle aches, and extreme tiredness. These symptoms can also be caused by other infections. A true influenza infection only occurs during annual (epidemic) outbreaks, when influenza viruses are widespread in the population. Outside of epidemic periods, flu-like symptoms are generally caused by another type of disease.

How does it work?

Tamiflu contains oseltamivir, which belongs to a group of medicines called neuraminidase inhibitors. These medications prevent the spread of the flu virus within the body. They help alleviate or prevent the symptoms of influenza virus infection.

Oseltamivir works by preventing infected cells from bursting and thus releasing the influenza virus that can infect nearby cells. This process must be stopped early - most guidelines indicate this within 48 hours from the onset of symptoms - to make a difference.

What are the benefits of taking it

Tamiflu is a medicine used to treat and prevent the flu. It is available as hard capsules or as a powder for oral suspension. When applied during the initial stage of infection, it can help reduce the severity of symptoms and speed recovery. It can also be taken as a precautionary measure to avoid the flu if it is taken after being exposed to the virus.

How do I use it and its dosage?

When using Tamiflu always follow your doctor's instructions and read the package leaflet. These measures will help you to get the maximum benefit from this treatment and to reduce the risk of experiencing side effects.

Follow your doctor's instructions.

  • If used to treat active flu, the course should begin within 48 hours of the first notification of symptoms.
  • The recommended dose for this purpose is one hard Tamiflu capsule (75 mg) or 12.5 ml of Tamiflu oral suspension powder, twice a day, once in the morning and once at night, for five days.
  • When used for prevention of influenza after coming into direct contact with an infected person, the recommended course is one capsule or 12.5 ml of oral suspension powder, taken once daily for 10 days.
  • In cases where the infection has occurred in a nearby community, its treatment may take longer. Your doctor will indicate accordingly.
  • Do not exceed the prescribed dose.
  • You should not make up for a missed dose with a double dose. If you forget to take your medicine, do so as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one, and continue treatment as before.
  • It is not uncommon to feel sick after taking this medicine for the first time, but you can reduce this effect by taking it with food.
