About Doxycycline Anti-Malarial Capsules
Doxycycline is an antibiotic used to treat chlamydia infections. Doxycycline is normally the second choice treatment for chlamydia, behind another antibiotic, Azithromycin. Doxycycline is equally as effective as azithromycin, but whereas azithromycin is a single dose treatment, doxycycline treatment needs to be taken twice daily for 7 days, meaning it can be inconvenient for patients.
Doxycycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. It is effective against a wide array of bacteria that are responsible for causing various types of infection. When being taken to treat the sexually-transmitted disease chlamydia; two tablets (2x500mg) are taken together as a single dose. A follow up course is not usually necessary. A 7-day course of Doxycycline will normally clear up most cases of chlamydia within 7 days. You can take another chlamydia test 14 days after your treatment to ensure the infection has cleared up.
Doxycycline is categorised as a prescription only medicine (POM).
Doxycycline is an antibiotic from the tetracycline group. This drug acts against bacterial infections. The active substance doxycycline inhibits protein synthesis in bacteria. The bacteria die without being able to reproduce, so that after a few days the symptoms of bacterial infection, such as pain and fever, decrease.
This sexual health treatment medication is an antibiotic that belongs to the category of tetracyclines synthetically obtained from natural precursors such as oxytetracycline, normally extracted from yeasts belonging to the Streptomyces family.
This medicine is used to treat diseases derived from a bacterial infection. Doctors prescribe Doxycycline, among other things, to:
- Respiratory infections (such as pneumonia, acute bronchitis, otitis media, sinusitis, and pharyngitis)
- Bladder infections
- Skin infections like acne and rosacea
- Gastrointestinal tract infections
- Sexually transmitted diseases (chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis)
- Lyme's disease
- Q fever
- Malaria
Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all of the medication guides or instruction sheets. Use the medicine exactly as directed.
Take this chlamydia treatment for men and women with a full glass of water. Drink plenty of fluids while you are taking doxycycline.
Carefully read and follow the Instructions for Use that come with your medicine. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you do not understand these instructions.
Most brands of doxycycline can be taken with food or milk if the medicine bothers your stomach.
Different brands of doxycycline may have different instructions about taking with or without food.
Take Oracea on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating a meal.
You may need to divide a doxycycline tablet to get the correct dose. Follow the instructions of your doctor.
Swallow one delayed-release capsule or tablet whole. Do not crush, chew, break, or open it.
Measure the liquid medicine with the measuring syringe that comes with your medicine, or with a special measuring cup or spoon. If you don't have a dose to measure your medicine, ask your pharmacist for a measuring spoon or cup.
If you are taking doxycycline to prevent malaria: Start taking the medicine 1 or 2 days before entering an area where malaria is common. Keep taking the medicine once a week during your stay and for at least 4 weeks after you leave the area.
Doxycycline is usually given by injection only if you cannot take the medicine by mouth. This injection will be given to you by a healthcare professional as an infusion into a vein.
Use this Chlamydia treatment medication for the full time your doctor prescribed it, even if your symptoms improve quickly. Skipping doses can increase your risk of a drug-resistant infection. Doxycycline does not cure a viral infection like the flu or the common cold.
Store at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light.
Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration day on the label has passed. Using expired doxycycline can harm your kidneys.
This is the usual dosage to treat most bacterial infections, unless otherwise directed by the doctor: Adults and children 12 years and older: two 100 mg capsules on the first day, and one 100 mg capsule daily during the following six days. For children under 12 years of age, the doctor may prescribe a different dose. Doxycycline 100 mg is not a medicine suitable for children under 8 years. Read the package leaflet before taking it.

Seek medical attention if you have a serious adverse reaction that can affect many parts of your body. Symptoms may include rash, fever, swollen glands, flu-like symptoms, muscle aches, severe weakness, unusual bruising, or yellowing of the skin or eyes.
