At a glance

The key facts about stopping Wegovy tablets
Yes, with support

You can stop at your goal

Once you’ve reached your target weight, you can stop — a decision to make together with your clinician.

Gradual change

Appetite returns slowly

The appetite-reducing effect wears off over time, so hunger comes back gradually rather than all at once.

The real key

Habits protect progress

Regain isn’t inevitable. The routines you’ve built are what keep your results going after treatment.

01 — Reaching your goal

Can you stop once you’ve reached your goal weight?

Yes, in many cases you can. Reaching your goal weight is an exciting milestone — but it’s also the start of the next stage: maintaining the progress you’ve worked so hard for. Before stopping, it’s important to speak to your healthcare provider, so you can decide together whether it’s the right time based on your progress, health and confidence in your new habits.

Home cooking Balanced portions Regular walks

By the time many people reach their target, healthier routines like these have simply become their new normal — and those are the habits that help support your weight long after treatment finishes.

02 — Your appetite

Will your appetite change after stopping?

For many people, yes. Wegovy tablets help you feel fuller for longer and reduce your appetite. Once you stop, these effects gradually wear off, so it’s normal for hunger to return over time.

That doesn’t mean you’ll suddenly feel as hungry as before. Many people find they’re much more aware of their eating habits, and better at telling genuine hunger apart from eating out of boredom, stress or routine.

Making the transition easier

You may feel ready for lunch a little earlier, or think about snacks more often. This is where your habits matter: filling meals rich in protein and fibre, eating mindfully, and staying active all help the transition feel much more manageable.

03 — The honest answer

Will you regain weight after stopping?

Weight regain is possible after stopping, particularly if old eating habits gradually return. Research has shown some people regain some of the weight they’ve lost once treatment ends — which is why building sustainable habits throughout your journey matters so much.

The good news is that regain isn’t inevitable. The changes you’ve made don’t disappear overnight. If you’ve built healthier eating habits, found activities you enjoy and developed a routine you can realistically maintain, you give yourself the best chance of keeping your results.

Rather than a quick fix, it helps to think of Wegovy tablets as a tool for building long-term habits — and it’s often those habits that have the greatest impact on maintaining your weight.

04 — Keeping it off

How to maintain your weight loss

Maintaining your weight is about continuing the habits that helped you lose it — not a strict diet or daily workouts, but a routine that’s realistic, enjoyable and sustainable. Simple habits make a big difference.

Balanced meals

Keep eating well

Carry on with the filling, balanced meals that worked for you.

Stay active

Movement you enjoy

Keep moving in ways that fit your life — walks count.

Enough sleep

Supports appetite

Good sleep helps regulate hunger and keeps energy steady.

Occasional weigh-ins

Spot changes early

Catching a small change early is easier than reversing a big one.

Above all, be kind to yourself. Holidays, birthdays and busy weeks happen — one takeaway or missed workout won’t undo your progress. Maintenance isn’t about being perfect; it’s about getting back into your routine.
