Losing weight vs. looking your best: why exercise matters
Wegovy tablets help you lose weight — but weight loss alone isn’t the full picture. What you do alongside your treatment shapes how you look and feel once the weight comes off. Exercise is one of the simplest ways to make your results work in your favour.
- ✓ Not required — but it shapes your results
- ✓ Protect muscle for a toned, strong result
- ✓ Feel better, not just lighter
At a glance
The key facts about exercise on Wegovy tabletsWeight loss happens either way
The medication reduces appetite, so you’ll lose weight with or without exercise — but exercise shapes the result.
Not all weight lost is fat
In a calorie deficit some weight can come from muscle. Resistance training and enough protein help protect it.
Toned, not gaunt
Keeping muscle means a stronger, healthier look — and makes weight easier to keep off long term.
Do you have to exercise while taking Wegovy tablets?
No — the medication reduces your appetite and helps control your blood sugar, so weight loss will happen with or without physical activity.
That said, whether you exercise or not has a big impact on the quality of your results. Losing weight is only part of the goal; losing it in a way that leaves you feeling strong, healthy and happy with how you look is a different matter — and that’s where exercise comes in.
Pharmacy Planet wants your journey to leave you feeling better, not just lighter.
Why you can lose muscle as well as fat
Your body doesn’t distinguish between fat and muscle when it’s in a calorie deficit. If you’re eating less and losing weight, your body draws energy from whichever tissue is easiest to break down — and muscle is often part of that mix. Without something to protect it, like resistance exercise and enough protein, some of the weight you lose can come from muscle rather than fat.
Muscle gives your body its shape and tone. Losing too much of it can lead to a gaunt or hollowed look in the face, a flatter appearance elsewhere, or loose, sagging skin — especially after rapid weight loss. None of this is inevitable: it’s largely preventable by maintaining muscle with the right approach.
Does exercise change how much weight you lose?
Not the amount — you’ll keep losing weight in a calorie deficit either way. What exercise changes is the make-up of that loss. Two people can lose the same two stone and look and feel very different at the end of it.
Illustrative comparison of the concept — not exact figures. The number on the scale can look similar while the composition of the loss differs. Individual results vary.
What type of exercise is best?
A mix of strength training and light cardio tends to give the best results. Strength work is especially important — it signals to your body that muscle is still needed, so it isn’t broken down for energy.
Strength, 2–3× a week
Bodyweight moves, resistance bands or weights — whatever suits your level and equipment.
Light cardio
Walking, swimming or cycling a few times a week supports general fitness and heart health.
Keep protein up
Protein gives your body what it needs to maintain muscle while you’re eating less overall.
Start gradually
New to exercise? Consistency matters more than intensity, especially in the first few weeks.
Look and feel your best
Wegovy tablets are a tool to help you lose weight, but our goal is to help you look and feel genuinely better — not just to see a lower number on the scale. Exercise is what bridges that gap.
When you maintain muscle while losing fat, you’re more likely to end up with a toned, healthy appearance. You’ll also tend to feel stronger, have more energy, and find it easier to keep the weight off, since muscle plays a key role in your metabolism. Losing weight is the first step — exercise helps make the result one you’re proud of.
