Rasilez is a medicine that contains the active substance aliskiren. It is marketed in tablets of 150 and 300 mg. Rasilez aliskiren uses include being indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults. "Essential" means that hypertension has no apparent cause. This medication can only be dispensed with a prescription.
The active substance in Rasilez, aliskiren, is a renin inhibitor, that is, it blocks the activity of this human enzyme that is involved in the production of a substance called angiotensin I in the organism. Angiotensin I is converted to the hormone angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor (a substance that narrows blood vessels). By blocking the production of angiotensin I, the angiotensin I and angiotensin II levels decrease. This causes vasodilation (relaxation blood vessels) which lowers blood pressure, thus reducing the risks associated with hypertension such as stroke.
The Rasilez tablets contain an active substance called aliskiren. Aliskiren belongs to a class of medications called renin inhibitors. Renin-inhibitors reduce the amount of angiotensin II that the body can produce. Angiotensin II causes the blood vessels to narrow, which increases blood pressure. By lowering the level of angiotensin II, the blood vessels can relax and cause blood pressure to drop.
This helps reduce high blood pressure in adult patients. High blood pressure puts more pressure on the heart and arteries. If this lasts a long time, it can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, and can lead to stroke, heart failure, heart attack, or kidney failure. A drop in blood pressure to normal reduces the risk of developing these conditions.
Always use these high blood pressure tablets exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. People with high blood pressure often don't notice the signs of the problem. Many feel quite normal. It is very important that you take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you to get the best results and to reduce the risk of side effects. Even if you feel well, keep appointments with the doctor.
The usual starting dose is one 150 mg tablet once a day. The antihypertensive effect is present within two weeks of starting treatment.
Depending on how you respond to treatment, your doctor may prescribe a higher dose of one 300 mg tablet per day. Your doctor may prescribe this medicine along with other medicines used to treat high blood pressure.
Administration method
Swallow the tablet whole with water. You should take this medicine once a day, always with or without food, preferably at the same time each day. You should establish an appropriate daily schedule to take the medication, in the same way, every day in a regular pattern, taking into account the time of your meals. You should avoid taking this medication with fruit juices and/or drinks that contain plant extracts (including herbal teas). During your treatment, your doctor may adjust your dose depending on your blood pressure response.
Like all medicines, this medicine can also have side effects, although not everyone has them.
