People also ask

What is Betnovate?

Betnovate cream contains betamethasone valerate as an active ingredient, which is a corticosteroid (anti-inflammatory), which applied to the skin reduces redness, inflammation and itching caused by certain skin problems.

How does it work?

The strength of Betnovate is thanks to the anti-inflammatory effects are a result of the inhibition of the formation, release, and activity of inflammation mediators such as cytokines, histamine, liposomal enzymes, prostaglandins and leukotrienes which reduce the initial manifestations of inflammatory processes; inhibit marginalization and subsequent cell migration to the affected area and reverse dilation and permeability from the glasses.

Corticosteroids induce the anti-inflammatory protein lipocortin, which inhibits the enzyme phospholipase A2 and it inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins and lipoxygenase products. Corticosteroids also bind to glucocorticoid receptors (GRs) located in the cytoplasm, moving to the nucleus, where upregulation of anti-inflammatory genes (such as lipocortin, neutral endopeptidase, or plasminogen activator inhibitors). They also decrease the stability of selected messenger RNA molecules, which alters the genetic transcription. Genes affected by this action include those involved in the synthesis. collagenase, elastase, plasminogen activator, nitric oxide synthase, cyclooxygenase type II, cytokines, and chemokines.

What are the benefits of taking it?

Betnovate cream is indicated for the treatment of inflammatory and pruritic (itchy) manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive skin conditions, such as:

  • Atopic dermatitis and neurodermatitis (also called lichen simplex, itchy patches of skin caused by scratching) (endogenous eczema, related to patient factors).
  • Allergic or irritative contact dermatitis (rash due to allergy or substances that irritate the skin).
  • Nummular dermatitis (discoid eczema) (coin-shaped rash).
  • Dyshidrotic eczema (itchy rash on the hands and feet).
  • Psoriasis (a reddish scaly condition often covered by silver scales). excluding psoriasis with extended plaques.
  • Seborrheic dermatitis (rash with inflammation and peeling).
  • Lichen planus (itchy skin condition with papules or small purplish elevations).
  • The discoid lupus erythematosus (a disease that affects the skin and usually affects the face or other parts and usually presents reddish plaques that can leave a scar).

How do I use it and its dosage?

Always use this eczema and psoriasis medication exactly as your doctor has told you. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist again.

The recommended dose is:

Adults from 12 years:

Betnovate 1 mg / g cream is especially indicated for wet or fluid-secreting conditions.

Apply a thin layer of the cream once or twice a day to the affected area. The number of applications can be reduced depending on the improvement, as with one application per day, to later interrupt the treatment.

This medicine should not be used for more than 2 weeks in a row.

If the treatment was on the face, the duration of the treatment should be as short as possible, 1-week maximum.

If your condition (or eczema) has frequent flare-ups and you have managed to control it, your doctor may advise intermittent treatment (with periods of interruption) with application once a day or twice a week in the areas of skin affected by eczema or in those areas where the injury is likely to reappear. This could help reduce the frequency of relapses.

The medicine should be applied in a thin layer using only the amount necessary to cover the affected area and spread it with a gentle massage.

Unless used for treating hands, wash them after applying the cream.

If you are using an emollient (moisturizer) at the same time, do not apply it until Betnovate cream has been completely absorbed.

Do not cover the area with a bandage or other non-breathable material, unless the doctor has indicated it, under his supervision.

Use in children and adolescents

Do not apply Betnovate cream to children under 12 years of age.
