About Dymista Nasal Spray
Dymista is a nasal spray that provides effective relief from allergic rhinitis. This includes hay fever symptoms, such as sneezing, congestion and a runny nose. Unlike most other allergy treatments, Dymista is a combination of two types of medicine. The two active ingredients are azelastine (an antihistamine) and fluticasone (a steroid). The antihistamine provides quick relief, taking effect within 30-60 minutes. Fluticasone will only take full effect after a few days of regular use, but will provide further relief from inflammation.
If Dymista does not fully relieve your symptoms, it is safe to continue using oral antihistamines as well. However, do not use other corticosteroid sprays, as these have similar ingredients and you will exceed the recommended dose.
Dymista contains two active substances: azelastine hydrochloride and fluticasone propionate.
Azelastine hydrochloride belongs to a group of medications called antihistamines. Antihistamines work by preventing the effects of substances such as histamine produced by the body as part of an allergic reaction; in this way, it reduces the symptoms of allergic rhinitis.
Fluticasone propionate belongs to a group of medicines called corticosteroids, which reduce inflammation.
Mechanism of action and pharmacodynamic effects
Dymista nasal spray contains azelastine hydrochloride and fluticasone propionate, which have different modes of action and show synergistic effects in terms of improvement of allergic rhinitis and rhinoconjunctivitis symptoms.
Fluticasone propionate
Fluticasone propionate is a synthetic trifluoro corticosteroid that exhibits a very high affinity for the glucocorticoid receptor and has a powerful anti-inflammatory action, eg. 3-5 times more potent than dexamethasone in gene expression and cloned human glucocorticoid receptor binding assays.
Azelastine hydrochloride
Azelastine, a phthalazinone derivative, is classified as a potent, long-acting antiallergic compound, with selective H1 antagonist, mast cell stabilizer, and anti-inflammatory properties. Data from in vivo (preclinical) and in vitro studies demonstrate that azelastine inhibits the synthesis or release of chemical mediators involved in early or late phase allergic reactions, for example, leukotrienes, histamine, platelet-activating factor (PAF ) and serotonin. 15 minutes after administration, relief of nasal allergy symptoms are observed.
Dymista uses include being used to relieve the symptoms of moderate to severe seasonal allergic rhinitis and perennial allergic rhinitis if treatment with an antihistamine or intranasal corticosteroid separately is considered insufficient. Seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis is allergic reactions to substances such as pollen (hay fever), house mites, molds, dust, or pets. Dymista relieves symptoms of allergies, for example, runny nose, post-nasal drip, sneezing, itching, or a runny nose.
Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist again. The regular use of Dymista is essential for the full therapeutic benefit.

Spraying method
- Shake the bottle gently for 5 seconds by tilting it up and down, and then remove the protective cap.
- Blow your nose to clear the nostrils.
- Keep your head bowed towards your feet. Don't put your head back.
- Hold the bottle upright and carefully insert the tip of the spray into a nostril.
- Cover the other nostril with your finger, press quickly once and, at the same time, breathe in gently.
- Breathe through your mouth.
- Repeat the operation on the other nostril.
- Breathe gently and do not tilt your head back after application. Thus, the medicine is prevented from reaching your throat, causing an unpleasant taste.
- After each use, wipe the tip of the sprayer clean with a clean tissue or cloth and replace the protective cap.
- Do not puncture the nozzle in case the spray is not obtained. Clean the valve with water.
It is important that you use the dose prescribed by your doctor. Use only the amount your doctor has recommended.
