What is Cutivate?

Cutivate is a Psoriasis Treatment medication that belongs to a group of medications known as corticosteroids, which have an anti-inflammatory effect when used topically. Cutivate (Fluticasone) propionate is a powerful corticosteroid that applied to the skin treats a wide variety of inflammatory skin diseases. It is used to relieve inflamed, red, and itchy skin in numerous skin problems that are not caused by microorganisms and that respond to corticosteroids.

Cutivate ingredients include fluticasone propionate 0.05 g. As excipients, it contains liquid paraffin, isopropyl myristate, Cetearyl alcohol, cetomacrogol 1000, propylene glycol, imidurea, disodium phosphate dodecahydrate, citric acid monohydrate, and purified water.

How does it work?

Topical corticosteroids possess anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictors. They act as anti-inflammatory agents through multiple mechanisms to inhibit reactions late-phase allergies, including decreasing mast cell density, decreasing the chemotaxis and activation of eosinophils, decrease the production of cytokines in lymphocytes, monocytes, mast cells, and eosinophils, and inhibit arachidonic acid metabolism.

What are the benefits of taking it?

Cutivate Cream is a powerful topical skin irritation treatment corticosteroid indicated for the relief of manifestations. Inflammatory and pruritic diseases of dermatoses that respond to corticosteroids, Cutivate uses include treatment for the following symptoms:

  • Atopic dermatitis
  • Nummular dermatitis (discoid eczema)
  • Nodular prurigo
  • Psoriasis (excluding disseminated plaque psoriasis)
  • Chronic lichen simplex (neurodermatitis) and lichen planus
  • Seborrheic dermatitis
  • Irritant or allergic contact
  • Discoid lupus erythematosus

How do I use it?

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist again.

For adults and children from 1 year of age, apply a thin layer of Cutivate to the affected area of the skin once or twice a day, unless your doctor tells you otherwise. Your doctor may reduce the number of applications or prescribe a less powerful corticosteroid as your condition improves. Consult your doctor for the duration of treatment. In some diseases (psoriasis, atopic dermatitis ...) it is not recommended to stop the treatment abruptly. You should gradually reduce the number of applications. Follow exactly the instructions indicated by your doctor.

If the symptoms appear again after recovery, the doctor will indicate the appropriate dose for you.

Instructions for use:

  1. Wash your hands.
  2. Apply a thin layer of cream and carefully spread until completely absorbed. Use only enough cream to cover the entire affected area.
  3. Wash your hands, unless the cream is used for treating hands.
  4. If you are using an emollient (moisturizer) allow time for Cutivate to absorb after each application before applying.
  5. This medicine should not be used every day for more than four weeks.

Its dosage

In adults and children from 1 year of age, apply a thin layer of Cutivate, massaging gently and using only the amount of cream necessary to cover the affected area. Apply the cream once or twice a day, for a maximum of 4 weeks until improvement occurs, then reduce the frequency of application or change the treatment to a less powerful corticosteroid. Allow sufficient time for the absorption of the medicine after each application before applying an emollient. If the condition worsens or does not improve within 2 - 4 weeks, treatment and diagnosis should be reevaluated.

Pediatric population

When Cutivate is used for treatment in children if no improvement is seen after 7–14 days from the start of treatment, treatment should be discontinued and the child reevaluated. Once the disease has been controlled (usually between 7-14 days), the frequency of application should be reduced to the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible time.

Elderly patients

Clinical studies have not identified differences in responses between elderly and younger patients. The increased frequency of decreased liver or kidney function in the elderly may delay the elimination of systemic absorption. Therefore, the minimum amount of medication should be used for the shortest possible time to achieve the desired clinical benefit.
