Product Info
Saxenda is a pre-filled injectable medicine designed to facilitate weight loss. Just like other weight loss medicines, Saxenda falls under the GLP-1 agonist category, and work to reduce your appetite to help you lose weight. It contains Liraglutide which works by acting on receptors in the brain responsible for controlling appetite and helping you feel fuller for longer, resulting in less food consumption and ultimately a reduction in body fat.
Saxenda is injected subcutaneously once daily. This can be taken at any time considered convenient to you, whether that is with or without food. The dosage may be changed by medical professionals based on response to treatment. Maximizing your treatment means following the dose instructions given by a medical practitioner.
Saxenda should be injected subcutaneously into the stomach area, upper thigh, or upper arm once daily. The site of your injection should be rotated frequently. Do not inject this medication into a vein or muscle. Always consult the patient information leaflet (PIL) within the packaging and follow instructions issued by your health care provider.
With all medicines, there can be a risk of side effects, although not everyone is susceptible to them.
The most common side effects of Saxenda can include :
- Nausea/Vomiting
- Diarrhea/Constipation
- Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
- Tiredness
- Headache
- Stomach pain/Stomach upset
- Change in lipase levels in your blood
- Fever
- Gastroenteritis
These particular side effects are more common in younger patients.
You can learn more about these side effects within the patient information leaflet (PIL) within the packaging.
It is important to communicate any medical conditions and current medications to the healthcare provider, as Saxenda may not prove suitable for all patients.

Saxenda is a prescription medicine that comes in pre-filled injection pens for self-administration at home once a day. It contains liraglutide, which belongs to a class of medications called GLP-1 receptor agonists. Saxenda works by mimicking the hormone GLP-1, which helps regulate blood sugar levels and induces a feeling of fullness, leading to weight loss.
Saxenda is considered one of the most effective weight loss medications available. Studies have shown that patients can expect to lose up to 8% of their body weight on average over 56 weeks when combined with diet and exercise.
Saxenda is suitable for adults with a BMI of 30 or greater, or a BMI of 27 or greater with weight-related conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or high cholesterol.
Saxenda is injected once daily, at any time of day, independently of meals. The injection is administered subcutaneously (under the skin) in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Detailed instructions on how to use the injection pen are provided in the Saxenda package.
Treatment typically starts with a low dose and gradually increases over time. The dose is increased weekly until the maintenance dose is reached. Healthcare providers may adjust the dose based on individual response and tolerability.
Like all medications, Saxenda can cause side effects. Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, constipation, vomiting, and low blood sugar (especially when used with other medications that lower blood sugar). These side effects usually improve over time.
Saxenda may be prescribed for adults with a BMI of 30 or greater, or a BMI of 27 or greater with weight-related conditions. It is not suitable for everyone, including those with a history of pancreatitis or thyroid cancer. Your healthcare provider will assess your eligibility for Saxenda and discuss the risks and benefits with you.

It is the prescribers duty to ensure that the medicine is being used safely and appropriately. please answer a few questions about yourself to help us process your request.
