What is Levocetirizine Xyzal?
Levocetirizine is used to reduce the symptoms of a runny nose, sneezing and redness, itching, and watery eyes caused by hay fever from allergies and seasonal allergies to allergens like dust mites, animal dander, and molds. It can also be used to treat symptoms of hives, itching, and included skin rashes. Levocetirizine is usually given by mouth as a tablet to take once a day in the afternoon.
How does it work?
Functioning as an allergy treatment, Levocetirizine (R-cetirizine) is the active enantiomer of cetirizine, a second-generation antagonist of H1 receptors, it is the first antihistamine that is not a metabolite.
In vitro pharmacodynamic studies show that most of the antihistamine action of cetirizine is due to levocetirizine, so both compounds produce the same effect, using different doses. It is rapidly absorbed orally. The establishment of the answer appears after 1 hour, remaining for 24 h. Its hepatic metabolism is minimal, so most of the dose is excreted unchanged in the urine. Its plasma elimination half-life is 7 hours after administration of a single dose.
What are the benefits of taking it?
Levocetirizine dihydrochloride is the active substance in Levocetirizine 5 mg film-coated tablets EFG. Levocetirizine is an antiallergic medicine. Being one the known best allergy tablets, Levocetirizine Xyzal is used to treat signs of illness (symptoms) associated with:
- allergic rhinitis (including persistent allergic rhinitis)
- urticaria
Antihistamines such as levocetirizine alleviate the discomfort associated with the conditions described above, such as sneezing, irritation, runny nose and congestion, itching, redness of the eyes with tearing, and skin rash.
