The mechanism of the effect of LDL decrease of simvastatin may involve lowering cholesterol concentration VLDL (C-VLDL) and LDL receptor induction, resulting in decreased production and increased catabolism of LDL-C. Apolipoprotein B also decreases substantially during simvastatin treatment. Furthermore, simvastatin moderately increases HDL-C and reduces plasma TG. As a result of these changes, the ratios between C-total and C-HDL and LDL-C and HDL-C are reduced.

How do I use it?

- Rare: hepatitis, yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice)
- Sleep disorders, including insomnia and nightmares
- Memory loss
- Sexual dysfunction
- Depression
- Respiratory problems including persistent cough and/or shortness of breath or fever
- Diabetes: more likely if you have high levels of sugars and fats in your blood, are overweight, and have high blood pressure. Your doctor will monitor you while you are taking this medicine.
Hypersensitivity
The following rare serious side effects have been reported. If any of these serious effects occur, stop taking the medicine and tell your doctor immediately or go to the nearest hospital emergency department.
Hypersensitivity (allergic) reactions including:
Inflammation of the deeper layers of the skin, swelling of the face, tongue, and throat, which can cause shortness of breath (angioedema), pseudocubic syndrome, polymyalgia (severe pain and stiffness of the shoulders and hips), dermatomyositis (inflammation muscle), inflammation of the blood vessels, thrombocytopenia (decreased number of platelets, a type of blood cell), eosinophilia (increased number of eosinophils, a type of blood cell), increased rate of globular sedimentation, arthritis and joint pain, itching, photosensitivity (increased sensitivity of the skin to light), fever, redness, shortness of breath and general malaise.
