Norethisterone should not be used to delay your period for more than 17 days without a face-to-face consultation with your GP. It should not be used more regularly than every 4 months.
Norethisterone is also present in some contraceptive pills and hormone replacement therapies for menopause. Norethisterone 5mg tablets should not be used for hormone replacement and do not offer any contraceptive cover. Your normal contraceptive method should still be used whilst you take Norethisterone 5mg tablets.
Norethisterone should be taken three times daily starting 3 days before your period is due until you wish your period to resume. Once Norethisterone has been stopped, a normal period will be experienced within 2 – 3 days. Norethisterone should not be taken if you are or could be pregnant. Norethisterone does not have any special dietary measures, it's absorption and effects are not changed by food or alcohol.
|Warnings||Not suitable if:•You have a history of blood clots, angina, heart attacks, mini-strokes.•You have high blood pressure.•You are allergic or sensitive to the active substance or to any of the ingredients.•You have known or suspected pregnancy.•You are breastfeeding.•You have a history of migraine.•You have Diabetes.•You have severe liver disease or tumours•Known, past or suspected sex hormone-dependent malignancies, including breast or genital tract cancer.•History during pregnancy of idiopathic jaundice, severe pruritus or pemphigoid gestationis. •You have undiagnosed genital bleeding.•You have untreated endometrial hyperplasia.•You have active trophoblastic disease. •Patients should not use norethisterone after a recent evacuation of a hydatiform mole.•You have porphyria •You have have high risk of blood clots (Surgery, obesity, immobile, family history, varicose veins, recent trauma)Norethisterone does not provide any form of contraception. You will need to take your normal precautions against pregnancy such as condom, diaphragm or IUD.|
