About Opticrom Eye Drops

Opticrom aqueous eye drops provide quick relief from allergy symptoms which affect the eyes. This includes puffy, itchy and watery eyes. The active ingredient is sodium cromoglycate, which helps to ease allergy symptoms within 2 minutes.

The eye contains a group of cells called mast cells. These cells are responsible for the eye’s immune response to foreign particles. Mast cells react to invading allergens by releasing a substance called histamine. As a result, the eyes become watery and inflamed. Common allergens that can trigger such a response includes; pollen, animal fur, and dust mites. Sodium cromoglycate has a stabilising effect on these mast cells; it inhibits the release of histamine and prevents inflammation.

What Is Opticrom?

Opticrom eye drops are used to treat eye symptoms of hay fever and other allergic reactions. This medication contains an anti-inflammatory compound that prevents the release of histamine from mast cells. Opticrom relieves the symptoms associated with multiple allergic reactions like itching, watering, redness, and inflammation of the eyes. It also treats puffy and swelled eyelids.

How Does Opticrom Work?

Opticrom eye drops contain sodium cromoglicate as its active ingredient. Sodium cromoglicate belongs to a group of drugs called anti-inflammatory/anti-allergic agents. This drug is used to treat red, watery and itchy eyes caused by allergies such as hay fever, house dust mites, and animal fur.

Sodium cromoglicate works by stabilizing immune cells called mast cells. Mast cells are triggered when they come in contact with a foreign substance or an allergen. When triggered mast cells release multiple substances including histamine which causes inflammation, and other symptoms.

This whole process is a part of our body’s immune response to a foreign substance. Opticrom relieves symptoms of allergies by reducing the cell’s allergic response.
