People also ask

What is Opatanol?

Opatanol clear eye drop solution contains the active ingredient olopatadine, which is used to treat eye-related symptoms of seasonal allergic conjunctivitis. This is an inflammation in the eyes of people with hay fever that occurs in pollen season. Symptoms include redness, swelling and itching in eyes.

How Does Opatanol Work?

The active ingredient in Opatanol is called olopatadine hydrochloride which belongs to the clad of drugs known as antihistamines. Antihistamines block the actions of histamine, a substance the body produces as a defence mechanism.

Histamine is released by mast cells where it is stored when the body reacts to foreign substances called allergens. The histamine binds to H1 receptors causing a chain reaction, which in turn produces allergic symptoms such as inflammation, swelling and itching. The olopatadine in Opatanol blocks the histamine receptors in the eyes, hence preventing such allergic symptoms.

What Are the Benefits of Taking Opatanol?

Opatanol relieves the symptoms of allergies in people with hay fever. It has proved to be effective in the pollens season when the amount of pollen in the air increases and acts as allergen for certain people.
