Nicardipine tablets are used for the treatment of hypertension or high blood pressure and chest pain.
Nicardipine tablets are used for the treatment of hypertension or high blood pressure and chest pain. If left untreated, these conditions can cause damage to the brain, kidneys, heart, blood vessels and other parts of the body. This medication is prescribed with lifestyle changes including healthy low fat, low-sodium diet, exercise, avoidance of alcohol and smoking.
Nicardipine is a calcium channel blocker. Calcium channel blockers relax the blood vessels, making it easier for the heart to pump blood. This increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart, which lowers blood pressure and reduces chest pain.
High blood pressure or hypertension can damage various vital organs that can cause strokes, heart attacks, kidney problems and other serious conditions. Nicardipine is a blood pressure medication that helps lower blood pressure and reduces chest pain. Nicardipine may increase your ability to exercise by relieving angina attacks over time.
Nicardipine is to be taken as directed by your doctor’s prescription. Regular intake helps control chest pain and high blood pressure but does not cure it. Nicardipine should be taken at the same time every day to help develop the habit.
The extended-release capsules need to be swallowed whole without chewing, crushing or splitting them. Regular nicardipine capsules can be taken with or without food. However, extended release capsules should be taken with food. Ensure that the food you eat is not high fat.
Nicardipine comes in two forms: a regular capsule and an extended-release capsule. The typical dosage of the regular capsule is three times a day and the extended release capsule is two times a day.
However, dosage may differ according to your unique condition. Follow your doctor’s prescription and take nicardipine exactly as directed. Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly as it may worsen symptoms.
If you have missed taking a dose of Nicardipine, take it as soon as possible. Skip the dose if it is almost time for your next dose. You should not double dose on Nicardipine.
