Mirvaso is a gel that has been specially developed to treat reddened skin as a result of rosacea ('copper rose'). The active Mirvaso gel ingredient is brimonidine. This is a drug from the group of alpha-blockers. The drug has a vasoconstrictive effect, among other things. Mirvaso Gel is prescribed for rosacea ('copper rose'). With this skin disease, the veins in the face become enlarged, leading to red spots on the cheeks, chin, nose, and/or forehead. Mirvaso Gel ensures that the blood vessels in the skin constrict and the redness of the face is reduced. Mirvaso is a gel that should be applied in a thin layer on the skin and face. The pea-sized amount is enough to treat facial skin. Always apply brimonidine gel to cleanse the skin. After application, allow the skin to dry well before you can use other care and makeup products. Do not use this medicine on other parts of the body and avoid contact with the lips, eyelids, and mucous membranes. (Eyes, mouth, nasal cavity). Always wash your hands well after applying the gel.

People also ask

What is Mirvaso gel?

Mirvaso contains the active substance brimonidine, which belongs to a group of medicines commonly called "alpha agonists". It is applied to the skin of the face to treat the redness caused by rosacea in adult patients. The redness of the face from rosacea is caused by high levels of blood flow in the skin of the face, which is the result of an increase in size (dilation) of the small blood vessels in the skin. When applied, Mirvaso works by narrowing these blood vessels, reducing excess blood flow and redness.

How does it work?

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that leads to visible redness and blood vessel dilation in the face. Mirvaso Gel works by directly targeting the small blood vessels in the facial skin, which enlarge due to increased blood flow. The active ingredient, brimonidine, binds to alpha2-adrenergic receptors in these blood vessels, causing them to narrow (vasoconstriction). This action effectively reduces excess blood flow to the skin, helping to diminish facial redness and give the skin a more even tone. Mirvaso Gel provides rapid relief from the redness caused by rosacea, with visible effects as soon as 30 minutes after application. The results can last up to 12 hours, offering significant relief throughout the day.

What are the benefits of taking it?

Mirvaso Gel offers a range of benefits for people suffering from the visible symptoms of rosacea:

  • Fast-Acting Relief: Visible reduction in redness can be noticed within 30 minutes of application.
  • Long-Lasting Effects: The gel provides up to 12 hours of symptom relief, helping to manage redness throughout the day.
  • Convenient Application: With once-daily application, it’s easy to incorporate Mirvaso Gel into your skincare routine.
  • Targeted Treatment: The vasoconstrictive effect of brimonidine targets the exact cause of facial redness in rosacea, offering effective, localized treatment.

How do I use it and it’s the dosage?

Always use this skin relief medication exactly as your doctor has told you. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist again.

Important: Mirvaso is indicated for adults and only for use on the skin of the face. Do not use this medicine on another part of your body, especially on wet surfaces of the body, eg, eyes, mouth, nose, or vagina.

Do not eat. Keep Mirvaso out of the reach of children.

How to use Mirvaso

It is recommended to apply Mirvaso to the face only once a day.

During the first week, start treatment with a small amount of gel (a pea-sized amount) as directed by your doctor or nurse.

If the symptoms remain the same or only improve slightly, then you can gradually increase the amount of gel used. Gently and evenly spread a very thin layer as directed by your doctor or nurse. It is important not to exceed the maximum daily dose of 1 gram (an amount of 5 times the size of a pea, applied to the entire face). Hands should be washed immediately after application of this medicine.

You should apply a small amount of pea-sized gel to the forehead, chin, nose, and both cheeks, and then gently and evenly spread a thin layer on each area. The recommended total daily dose should not be exceeded (5 pea-sized amounts). You should avoid the eyes, eyelids, lips, mouth, and inside of the nostrils. If you apply the product in these areas, wash them immediately with plenty of water. If you experience worsening redness or burning sensation on the skin, stop using Mirvaso, and contact your doctor if necessary.

Do not apply any other skin medicine or cosmetics immediately before the daily application of Mirvaso.

You should use these products only after applying Mirvaso, once it has dried.

Be careful when opening the tube / pump the first time, to avoid spilling more gel than necessary. If this occurs, you should discard the excess gel so as not to apply more than the recommended dose.

For the Mirvaso dose, an application every 24 hours, at any time that is appropriate for the patient, while facial erythema persists.

The maximum recommended daily dose is 1 g of gel in total weight, which corresponds approximately to an amount five times the size of a pea.

Treatment should be started with a smaller amount of gel (less than the maximum) for at least one week. Thereafter, the amount of gel can be gradually increased depending on the tolerability and response of the patient.
