What is Mirvaso gel?

Mirvaso contains the active substance brimonidine, which belongs to a group of medicines commonly called "alpha agonists". It is applied to the skin of the face to treat the redness caused by rosacea in adult patients. The redness of the face from rosacea is caused by high levels of blood flow in the skin of the face, which is the result of an increase in size (dilation) of the small blood vessels in the skin. When applied, Mirvaso works by narrowing these blood vessels, reducing excess blood flow and redness.

How does it work?

Rosacea is a skin condition that mainly affects the face. Symptoms include episodes of redness that have been linked to a widening of the small blood vessels on the skin of the face, which increases blood flow in the area. The active Mirvaso gel ingredient is brimonidine tartrate, which works by binding to receptors called alpha2-adrenergic receptors found in blood vessel cells of the skin and activates them. As a consequence of the activation of these receptors, the blood vessels become narrow, reducing blood flow to the face and decreasing redness.

What are the benefits of taking it?

Mirvaso is a medicine whose active ingredient is brimonidine tartrate. It is used for the treatment of facial erythema (redness of the facial skin) in adults with rosacea, a Prolonged skin condition that usually causes flushing and redness.

How do I use it and it’s the dosage?

Always use this skin relief medication exactly as your doctor has told you. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist again.

Important: Mirvaso is indicated for adults and only for use on the skin of the face. Do not use this medicine on another part of your body, especially on wet surfaces of the body, eg, eyes, mouth, nose, or vagina.

It is important not to exceed the maximum daily dose of 1 gram (an amount of 5 times the size of a pea, applied to the entire face). Hands should be washed immediately after application of this medicine.

You should use these products only after applying Mirvaso, once it has dried.

Be careful when opening the tube / pump the first time, to avoid spilling more gel than necessary. If this occurs, you should discard the excess gel so as not to apply more than the recommended dose.

For the Mirvaso dose, an application every 24 hours, at any time that is appropriate for the patient, while facial erythema persists.
