The Fobumix Easyhaler is a prescription-only combination inhaler that can be used to help manage asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The Fobumix Easyhaler comes in a dry powder inhaler (DPI) for easy administration and contains budesonide and formoterol fumarate dihydrate to provide relief of symptoms and help to improve airflow in the long term.

What Is Fobumix Easyhaler?

Fobumix Easyhaler is an inhaler used to treat adults of over 18 years and older who suffer from asthma. It works by reducing inflammation and swelling in lungs. It also relaxes the muscles of air passageways and prevents asthma symptoms like shortness of breath, coughing and wheezing.

This inhaler can also be used to treat symptoms of other lung diseases including Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD, which also includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema) in adults. The Fobumix Easyhaler can be prescribed along with a separate reliever inhaler like salbutamol or it can prescribed as your only inhaler.

How does Fobumix Easyhaler work?

In an asthma attack, the cells of your lungs and airways become swollen and inflamed and start producing extra mucus, which makes your breathing tubes narrow. During this attack you may start wheezing, coughing or have trouble breathing. Fobumix Easyhaler prevents your lungs and airways from inflammation and allergic reactions that may cause an asthma attack or other breathing problems.

It contains two chemicals as its active agents called Budesonide and formoterol fumarate dihydrate.

  • Budesonide belongs to a group of manufactured anti-inflammatory drugs called corticosteroids or simply steroids (different from anabolic steroids usually abused by athletes). This drug plays its part by reducing the inflammation and swelling in the lungs and airways.
  • When inhaled this drug relaxes the muscles of lungs and airways and allows asthma patients to breathe easily.

What are the benefits of using Fobumix Easyhaler?

  • Use your Fobumix Easyhaler exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Ask your doctor or your pharmacist for the correct technique, if you think you are using your inhaler wrong.
  • The dosage may differ from person to person. Make sure to ask your doctor when to use your Fobumix Easyhaler and how many puffs to take each time.
  • Use Fobumix Easyhaler everyday even if you don’t have symptoms of asthma or COPD.

Dosage

Each delivered (inhaled) dose consists of 160 micrograms of budesonide and 4.5 micrograms of formoterol fumarate dihydrate. The dosage of Fobumix Easyhaler depends on doctor’s prescription. Fobumix Easyhaler is sometimes prescribed solely and sometimes with a reliever inhaler, depending on the patient’s condition.

How to use Fobumix Easyhaler as your only inhaler?

Frequently Asked Questions

The difference between the Fobumix Easyhaler and Symbicort Turbohaler is minimal. They contain the same active ingredients (budesonide and formoterol fumarate dihydrate), and both can help with asthma prevention. However, they come in different inhaler devices: Fobumix Easyhaler is a dry powder inhaler, while Symbicort Turbohaler is a metered dose inhaler. Many GPs prescribe these interchangeably, depending on supply issues or patient preference.

No, you cannot use Fobumix Easyhaler for sudden asthma attacks because it is a preventer inhaler designed for long-term use and prevention. For sudden asthma attacks, you should use reliever inhalers like Ventolin or Salamol, which should have been prescribed alongside your Fobumix Easyhaler.

The Fobumix Easyhaler can start working within 1–3 minutes due to the bronchodilator formoterol; however, to experience the full benefits of the Fobumix Easyhaler, you should use it consistently. This inhaler is not a rescue inhaler, so it will not help during asthma attacks.

Yes, the Fobumix Easyhaler is safe for everyday use to help prevent asthma symptoms and to reduce airway inflammation. You should use this medication daily and not stop using it without consulting your healthcare professional.

If you miss a dose of your Fobumix Easyhaler, you should take it as soon as you remember. It’s important to be consistent with this medicine to get the best results. However, if you remember close to the time of your next dose, skip the missed dose, as double dosing may result in unwanted side effects and will not be effective for your asthma treatment.
