Feanolla Tablets

Feanolla is an oral contraceptive pill based on a progestogen hormone. This medicine works by thickening the mucus from the cervix and altering the lining of the uterus (endometrium). As a result, sperm struggle to move up the female genital system, and implantation of the possibly fertilized egg is disadvantaged. The tablets should be taken every day at approximately the same time so that the interval between two tablets is always 24 hours. The first tablet should be taken on the first day of menstruation. Thereafter, one tablet should be taken every day continuously, regardless of whether bleeding may occur. Once the blister is finished, the next day a new one will be started.

What is Feanolla?

Feanolla is an oral contraceptive pill based on a progestogen hormone. This medicine works by thickening the mucus from the cervix and altering the lining of the uterus (endometrium). As a result, sperm struggle to move up the female genital system, and implantation of the possibly fertilized egg is disadvantaged.

Mini contraceptive pill Like other contraceptive pills, the mini pill also inhibits the ovulation process in a more or less marked way. For maximum effectiveness, it is necessary to take the mini pill every day, always at the same time and without interruption.

How does it work?

The Feanolla pill is a gestagen contraceptive containing the progestin desogestrel. Like other progestagen-only contraceptives, the use of Feanolla 75 micrograms tablets is more suitable for lactating women and women who do not owe or wish to use estrogens. Unlike traditional progestogen-only contraceptives, the contraceptive effect of Feanolla 75 micrograms tablets is primarily achieved by inhibiting ovulation. Other effects include an increase in the viscosity of cervical mucus.

Following the 2-cycle study, with ovulation defined as a progesterone concentration greater than 16 nmol / l for 5 consecutive days, the incidence of ovulation was 1%.

With a 95% confidence interval of 0.02-5.29% in the ITT group (user and method failures). The inhibition of ovulation was obtained from the first cycle of use. In this study, Feanolla 75 micrograms tablets were discontinued after 2 cycles (56 consecutive days) and ovulation occurred on average 17 days (7-30 days interval).

What are the benefits of taking it?

Feanolla birth control pills are medicine used to prevent pregnancy.  The progestogen-only contraceptive, "minipill," which does not contain estrogens. Feanolla 75 micrograms tablets is a progestogen-only contraceptive, also called a "minipill." Feanolla 75 micrograms tablets contain a small amount of one type of female sex hormone, the progestin desogestrel.

Most gestagenic contraceptives or minipills work primarily by preventing sperm from entering the uterus, although they do not always prevent maturation of the egg, which is the way the combined contraceptive works.

Feanolla 75 micrograms tablets differ from other mini-pills in that it has a dose that prevents the egg from maturing in most cases. Therefore, this medicine provides high contraceptive efficacy.

In contrast to combination contraceptives, women who do not tolerate estrogens, and those who are breastfeeding can use Feanolla 75 micrograms tablets.

One drawback is that while using Feanolla 75 micrograms tablets, vaginal bleeding may appear at irregular intervals. Although it is also possible that you do not experience any bleeding.

How do I use it and its dosage?

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor, pharmacist or nurse has told you. If in doubt, ask your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse. When and how to take the tablets

Each Feanolla 75 microgram tablet blister contains 28 tablets (for 4 weeks).

Take one tablet every day, at about the same time of day. Swallow the tablet whole with water.

On the front of the blister, there are printed arrows between the tablets. The days of the week are printed on the back. Each day corresponds to one tablet.

Each time you start a new blister of Feanolla 75 micrograms tablets, take one tablet from the top row. Do not start with any tablet. For example, if you start on a Wednesday, you should take the tablet from the top row that is marked (behind) with the word WED.

Keep taking one tablet each day until the blister is finished, always following the direction indicated by the arrows. Looking at the back of the blister, you can easily check if you have already taken the tablet for a specific day.

While using Feanolla 75 micrograms tablets, you may experience some bleeding, but you should continue taking the tablets regularly.

When the Feanolla 75 microgram tablet blister is empty, you should start a new one the next day, without interruption and without waiting for bleeding.

Frequently Asked Questions

One thing you should know about taking the Feanolla tablet is that you should begin taking it on the first day of your period for immediate contraceptive protection. Some common adjustment symptoms that you may experience include spotting, mood changes, or mild nausea—these often subside over time.

Yes, this contraceptive tablet is often recommended for women who are over 35, especially those who smoke or who have risk factors making oestrogen-based pills unsuitable for them.

As a progestogen-only pill (POP), it carries a lower risk of cardiovascular side effects compared to combined oral contraceptives. It's also a good choice for women who are perimenopausal and want a low-hormone contraceptive option.

Feanolla can help regulate periods and reduce hormonal symptoms in some women with PCOS or endometriosis. While not officially licensed for these conditions, its hormone-regulating effects may offer relief for some women.

Yes, some medications can reduce the effectiveness of Feanolla. Examples include anti-epileptic drugs (e.g. phenytoin, carbamazepine), antibiotics like rifampicin, HIV medications, and herbal remedies containing St. John’s Wort.

Long-term use of Feanolla is considered safe for most women, although some women may experience changes in their menstrual cycle, such as no periods or irregular periods. There is no evidence that long-term use of Feanolla impacts future fertility—normal ovulation typically resumes quickly after stopping.

Yes, this tablet is safe for women to use if they are breastfeeding. As this is not a combined oral contraceptive, it does not contain oestrogen, which can affect the milk. Always consult a healthcare provider before starting any hormonal contraceptive while nursing.
