Competact is a medicine that reduces the level of glucose (sugar) in the blood. This medicine consists of 2 active ingredients: Metformin ensures that more glucose is absorbed into the liver through the muscles. Pioglitazone speeds up the absorption of glucose in the body's cells and prevents the liver from releasing too much glucose into the blood. The combination of these medicines contained in Competact lowers blood sugar levels. Competact is prescribed to patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This is a form of diabetes in which the liver and muscles respond less to insulin. This increases the blood glucose content. An excessive level of sugar in the blood causes symptoms such as thirst, tiredness, blurred vision, and an increased need to urinate. In addition, the organs can be damaged by the higher content of sugar in the blood. Competact lowers blood sugar level and reduces type 2 symptoms.

Competact contains pioglitazone and metformin, improves metabolic markers in type 2 diabetes patients. This tablets are an anti-diabetic medicine used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus.

People also ask

What is Competact?

Competact contains pioglitazone and metformin. It is an antidiabetic medication that is used in adult patients to treat type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus when treatment with metformin alone is not sufficient. This type of type 2 diabetes generally occurs in adults, mainly as a consequence of being overweight and if the body either does not produce enough insulin (a hormone that controls blood sugar levels) or is not able to effectively use the insulin produced. Your doctor will monitor the effect that Competact is having on you between 3 and 6 months after treatment started. Competact is used to control blood sugar levels if you have type 2 diabetes, allowing your body to make better use of the insulin it produces.

How does it work?

Competact combines two antihyperglycemic active ingredients with complementary mechanisms of action to improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: pioglitazone, belonging to the thiazolidinedione class and metformin hydrochloride, belonging to the biguanide class. Thiazolidinediones work mainly by reducing insulin resistance and biguanides work by decreasing endogenous hepatic glucose production.

What are the benefits of taking it?

Competact Pioglitazone uses include being indicated as a second-line treatment for adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, especially overweight patients, who do not achieve sufficient glycemic control with the maximum tolerated dose of oral metformin monotherapy.

How do I use it and its dosage?

After initiation of pioglitazone treatment, patients should be monitored 3 to 6 months later to assess response to treatment (eg reduction in HbA1c). In patients who do not show an adequate response, pioglitazone should be discontinued. Considering the potential risks of prolonged treatment, clinicians should confirm in subsequent routine check-ups that the benefit of pioglitazone is maintained.

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist again.

The recommended Competact Pioglitazone dosage is one tablet twice a day. If necessary, your doctor may prescribe a different dose. If you have reduced kidney function, your doctor may prescribe a lower dose that may need to be given as separate pioglitazone and metformin tablets.

Take the tablets with a glass of water. You should take the tablets with or just after meals to reduce the risk of digestive discomfort.

If you are following a special diabetic diet, stick to it while taking Competact.

You will need to check your weight regularly. If you gain weight, tell your doctor.

Your doctor will regularly order blood tests during treatment with Competact to check the correct function of your liver. At least once a year (more often if you are old or have kidney problems), your doctor will check how well your kidneys are working.

If you take more Competact than you should

If you accidentally take too many tablets, or if a child or someone else takes your medicine, tell your doctor or pharmacist immediately. Your blood sugar level may drop below normal, but it can be increased by taking sugar. It is recommended that you bring some lumps of sugar, candy, cookies, or some sugary fruit juice.
