Circadin Melatonin

Melatonin tablets are indicated to supplement a hormone that is found naturally in our bodies. It is produced from the essential amino acid tryptophan, by transforming serotonin into melatonin in the pineal gland (which is at the base of the brain). Melatonin functions by resynchronizing an altered biological clock that is restoring not only the sleep rhythm but the rest of the circadian rhythms. In other words, a sleep disorder is reflecting an alteration of the biological clock and, therefore, the alteration of many other circadian rhythms. The recommended dose is one melatonin tablet (2 mg), taken orally after eating a meal, 1 or 2 hours before bedtime. This dose can be prolonged for a maximum of thirteen weeks. You must swallow the tablet whole. Melatonin tablets should not be crushed or halved.

Frequently Asked Questions

Melatonin tablets are indicated to supplement a hormone that is found naturally in our bodies. It is produced from the essential amino acid tryptophan, by transforming serotonin into melatonin in the pineal gland (which is at the base of the brain). The melatonin tablets work in several different ways, including regulating our biological clock. In addition to the regulation of melatonin secretion is affected by light, it makes us sleepy at night, when the amount of melatonin in our body increases, and makes us wake up when it decreases. Melatonin also stimulates the secretion of growth hormone. Melatonin tablets seem to intervene in regulating our appetite and modulating the production of gonadotropins (they are responsible for the development and function of the ovaries and testicles). It acts as a powerful antioxidant fighting free radicals. It also improves the immune system helping to inhibit some infections, as it increases our natural defenses.

Melatonin functions by resynchronizing an altered biological clock that is restoring not only the sleep rhythm but the rest of the circadian rhythms. In other words, a sleep disorder is reflecting an alteration of the biological clock and, therefore, the alteration of many other circadian rhythms. Treating insomnia as a primary process using, for example, hypnotics, prevents us from restoring the other rhythms, which are still altered, while the hypnotics themselves further alter the biological clock by inhibiting the production of melatonin.

A trip by car or by plane or boat is a serious problem for some people. Nausea and vomiting from motion sickness can be prevented with special pills. Another common sequel to travel is jet lag. Due to the time difference, it is difficult for him to sleep at night or he is very tired during the day. Melatonin is a hormone that induces sleep. This way you can regain the correct rhythm faster.

It is a chronobiotic and, unlike hypnotics such as benzodiazepines, it does not depress the central nervous system. What melatonin does is regulate the circadian rhythm-generating system, which we call the biological clock, to adapt it to a 24-hour period, which in turn synchronizes the rest of the biological rhythms, including sleep/wake when is altered.

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist again.

The recommended dose is one tablet (2 mg) of Melatonin, taken orally after eating a meal, 1 or 2 hours before bedtime. This dose can be prolonged for a maximum of thirteen weeks.

You must swallow the tablet whole. Melatonin tablets should not be crushed or halved.

If you take more Melatonin than you should

If you accidentally take more medicine than you should, see your doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible.

Taking a higher dose than recommended for each day can cause drowsiness.

If you forget to take Melatonin

If you forget to take the tablet, take it as soon as you remember, before going to bed, or wait until the next dose and then continue as before.

Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
