Cerelle Tablets

Cerelle is used for the prevention of pregnancy. Cerelle contains a small amount of a type of female sex hormone, the progestin desogestrel. For this reason, Cerelle is called a progestin-only pill (POP). Unlike the combined pill, POP does not contain an estrogenic hormone alongside progestogen.

Most POPs work primarily by preventing sperm from entering the uterus, but they do not always prevent the maturation of the eggs, which is the main action of combination-type pills. Cerelle differs from most POPs by having a dose that in most cases is high enough to prevent maturation of the eggs. As a consequence, Cerelle provides high contraceptive efficacy.

About Cerelle Tablets

Cerelle is a brand of this miniature contraceptive pill, or progesterone pill alone. It prevents pregnancy by preventing the ovaries from releasing an egg every month. In addition, it thins the lining of the uterus and thickens the mucus surrounding the entrance to the uterus. This makes it difficult for sperm to pass through and for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.

What is Cerelle?

This makes it difficult for sperm to pass through and for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.

The Cerelle birth control pill (mini pill) is a progestin-only pill, distributed by Consilient. These types of pills are also known by the name of mini-pills. Since it does not contain estrogens, it is an effective alternative for those women more sensitive to the side effects that combination pills sometimes cause. They can also be taken during lactation.

How does it work?

The Cerelle birth control mini pill prevents you from getting pregnant by increasing the thickness of the mucus in the neck of your womb (cervix), making it difficult for sperm to pass through. Unlike traditional progestin-only pills, Cerelle's contraceptive effect is primarily achieved by inhibiting ovulation.

What are the benefits of taking it?

Cerazette is used for the prevention of pregnancy. Cerazette contains a small amount of a type of female sex hormone, the progestin desogestrel. For this reason, Cerazette is called a progestin-only pill (POP). Unlike the combined pill, POP does not contain an estrogenic hormone alongside progestogen.

Most POPs work primarily by preventing sperm from entering the uterus, but they do not always prevent the maturation of the eggs, which is the main action of combination-type pills. Cerazette differs from most POPs by having a dose that in most cases is high enough to prevent maturation of the eggs. As a consequence, Cerazette provides high contraceptive efficacy.

How do I use it and its dosage?

You will need to ask your healthcare provider for a prescription for the mini pill.

As long as you are not pregnant, you can start taking the mini pill at any time, ideally on the first day of your menstrual period. Your healthcare provider may recommend using a backup method of contraception, such as condoms, for the first two days after you start taking the minipill.

The important thing to keep in mind about the mini pill is that it should be taken at the same time every day. If you are more than three hours late to take it, you will not have contraceptive protection. With this in mind, it is a good idea to make taking the mini pill a part of your regular daily routine or set an alarm to make sure you take it on time. When to start:

  • If you have regular periods, it is best to start taking Cerelle on days 1-5 of your period. This means that you will be protected from pregnancy immediately.
  • If you know you are not pregnant, you can start taking Cerelle at any time during your cycle, although you will also need to use another type of contraceptive for the first two days.
  • If you have just had a baby, you should start taking Cerelle on day 21 after delivery to be fully protected from the first day of taking it. There is no need to start taking it earlier. If you start taking it more than 21 days after having your baby, you will need to use additional contraceptives for the first two days that you take the pill, if you intend to have sex.
  • Talk to your doctor about the best time to start using Cerelle if you do not have regular periods, have recently had a miscarriage or miscarriage, or have taken emergency contraception.
