About Lisinopril Tablets

Lisinopril is an oral treatment for hypertension (high blood pressure). It belongs to a group of medicines called angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, or ACE inhibitors. These medicines work to widen the blood vessels, which helps to relieve the workload of the heart. As well as hypertension, Lisinopril can also be prescribed for heart failure, or to protect blood vessels following a recent heart attack. Lisinopril tablets are available in strengths of 5mg, 10mg, and 20mg. Lisinopril will begin to lower your blood pressure within one hour, and will take full effect within six hours.

People also ask

What is Lisinopril?

Lisinopril belongs to a group of so-called ACE inhibitors. It ensures that the action of certain enzymes slows down. As a result, Lisinopril is effective in treating certain heart conditions and high blood pressure. Lisinopril comes in tablets of 2.5, 10, and 20mg.

How does it work?

This high blood pressure medication (Lisinopril) is a peptidyl dipeptidase inhibitor, which inhibits the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) that catalyzes the conversion of angiotensin I to the vasoconstrictor angiotensin II peptide. ACE inhibition results in reduced concentrations of angiotensin II, leading to decreased vasopressor activity and reduced aldosterone secretion; The latter can cause an increase in serum potassium concentration.

What are the benefits of taking it?

Lisinopril is indicated for:

  • Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure).
  • Treatment of heart failure (improper functioning of the heart).
  • Short-term treatment of acute myocardial infarction (recent heart attack).

Lisinopril works by dilating your blood vessels. This helps lower your blood pressure.

How do I use it and its dosage?

Always use these medicinal tablets exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Once you start taking lisinopril, your doctor may do blood tests. Then your doctor can adjust the dose so that you take the right amount of medicine.

Taking the medicine

Swallow the tablet with water. Take these medicinal Lisinopril tablets at the same time every day. It doesn't matter if you take the medicine before or after meals. Continue to take lisinopril for as long as your doctor tells you, as it is a long-term treatment.

Taking the first dose

Take care when you take the first recommended dose of Lisinopril tablets or if your dose is increased. It can cause an even greater decrease in blood pressure than will occur with the following doses.

This effect can make you feel dizzy or lightheaded. If this happens, lying down may help. If this concerns you, see your doctor as soon as possible.

For high blood pressure:

The recommended starting dose of Lisinopril is 10 mg once a day.

The usual long-term dose of Lisinopril is 20 mg once a day.

For heart failure:

The recommended starting dose of Lisinopril is 2.5 mg once a day.

The long-term dose is 5 mg to a maximum of 35 mg once daily.

After an acute myocardial infarction (heart attack):

The recommended starting dose is 5 mg on the first and second day after heart attack, followed by 10 mg once a day as the usual long-term dose.

Complications in kidney function from diabetes:

The recommended dose of Lisinopril tablets is 10 mg or 20 mg once a day.
