Bumetanide is a sulfonamide-type loop diuretic used in the treatment of oedema associated with congestive heart failure, cirrhosis, and kidney disease such as nephrotic syndrome. It is structurally related to furosemide, but its diuretic potency is approximately 40 times greater. Bumetanide may be particularly useful in patients who do not respond to other diuretics or who have severe renal impairment and require large doses of loop diuretics. Bumetanide is available only on prescription in the UK. You can buy Bumetanide tablets online from Pharmacy Planet by completing a simple online consultation.

What is Bumetanide?

Bumetanide is a High Blood pressure medicine that belongs to a class of medications called loop diuretics. Diuretics are used for the symptoms of high blood pressure and are also known as water pills. A drug class is a group of drugs that work similarly. These drugs are often used to treat similar conditions. Buumetanide works very quickly, but its effects don't last very long. Bumetanide starts working within 30-60 minutes of taking it. Usually it stops working after 4-6 hours, especially if you take doses equal to or greater than 2 mg.

How does it work?

It acts at various levels on the functioning of the kidney, causing diuresis (increased of the amount of urine eliminated) and increased elimination of sodium, potassium and other electrolytes in the urine, by inhibiting its reabsorption by the body. It also produces a renal vasodilation, with decreased renal vascular resistance that contributes to diuretic effect.

What are the benefits of taking it?

Bumetanide tablet uses include the treatment of edema (i.e. the accumulation of fluids) caused by medical problems such as kidney, liver and heart diseases. Sometimes it also finds application in the treatment of high blood pressure.

How do I use it?

Bumetanide acts on the kidneys by removing additional water from the system. This leads to a reduction in swelling.

It is recommended to start the treatment with one or two tablets a day and the dose can be increased to a maximum of 10 divided into several doses.

If you have liver or kidney failure you may need lower doses. Consult your doctor.

It is not recommended for use in children under 18 years.

It is recommended to administer at breakfast.

Its dosage

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist again. The Bumetanide dosage is the following, only for oral use:

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, Bumetanide can damage your kidneys when it is combined with certain medications. This risk is increased especially when Bumetanide is combined with certain medicines usually given for infections, cancer, osteoporosis, organ transplant rejection, bowel disorders, or pain and arthritis.

Bumetanide 1 mg is the lowest strength available, and it is used to treat mainly oedema and heart failure. This starting dosage helps reduce fluid buildup in the body and is usually given for mild cases of oedema.

You must drink an adequate amount of water each day so that you do not feel thirsty for long periods. During summer and while performing heavy exercise, you must drink plenty of water. If you have kidney or heart-related issues, you might need to limit your fluid intake.

Bumetanide is a diuretic which usually causes hypokalemia (loss of potassium). However, in a few cases, it may result in hyperkalemia. The chances of having hyperkalemia are higher if you have any kidney issues or are taking potassium-sparing medications, or if there is an acid-base imbalance. In cases of dehydration, reduced kidney blood flow can impair potassium excretion, causing it to build up in the body. This is why it is important to monitor your potassium levels while using diuretics.

If you overdose on Bumetanide, you may experience symptoms such as loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, weakness, dizziness, etc. It can also lead to severe water and electrolyte loss. Therefore, it is important to report such symptoms to your healthcare professional for immediate medical attention.

Before starting Bumetanide, it is important to read the information given in the patient information leaflet to ensure safe and effective use.
