What are Bonviva ibandronic acid tablets?
Bonviva can reverse bone loss by preventing more bone loss and increasing bone mass in most women who take it, even when they are unable to see or appreciate the difference. Bonviva can help reduce cases of broken bones (fractures). This reduction has been demonstrated in vertebral fractures but not in hip fractures.
Bonviva has been prescribed to treat your osteoporosis because you are at high risk for fractures. Osteoporosis consists of a thinning and weakening of the bones, which is common among women after menopause. At menopause, the ovaries stop producing the female hormone - estrogens - that helps preserve the health of the skeleton.
How does it work?
Osteoporosis manifests when the production of new bone is insufficient to replace the bone that is naturally destroyed. Bones gradually become thin, brittle and susceptible to fracture. Osteoporosis occurs more frequently in women after menopause, when estrogen levels drop, since this female hormone helps keep bones healthy.

What are the benefits of taking it?
Two studies demonstrated that 150 mg monthly tablets and injections were more effective than 2.5 mg tablets daily to increase bone density in the spine and hip. In two years, the bone density of the spine increased 7% with the monthly tablets and 6% with the injections, compared to 5% of daily tablets. Hip bone density increased by 4% with monthly tablets and 3% with injections, compared to 2% of daily tablets.
How do I use it?
Bonviva can be administered in the form of tablets. If the tablet, the dose is one tablet per month, preferably the same day of the month, which should always take with a full glass of water in the morning on an empty stomach, and then wait an hour before ingesting any food or drink other than water. (in areas with hard water, where tap water contains a lot of dissolved calcium, low content bottled water can be used mineral).

The recommended dose is one 150 mg film-coated tablet once a month. The tablet should preferably be taken on the same day of each month. Bonviva should be taken after an overnight fast (at least 6 hours) and 1 hour before breakfast or the first drink (other than water) of the day (see section 4.5) or any other oral medication or supplement (including calcium):
The tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of water (180 to 240 ml) sitting or foot. Patients cannot lie down until 1 hour after taking Bonviva.
Water is the only drink that can be administered with Bonviva. Please remember that certain mineral waters may contain a high amount of calcium and therefore should not be used.
The tablets should not be chewed or sucked due to the potential danger of ulcers. oropharyngeal.

They are arthralgia (joint pain) and flu-like symptoms. The most serious side effects with Bonviva are anaphylactic reaction (severe allergic reaction), atypical fractures of the femur (a type unusual fracture of the upper leg bone), osteonecrosis of the jaw (injury of the jaw bones (which can cause pain, mouth sores, or tooth loss), irritation gastrointestinal (stomach and intestine) and inflammation of the eyes.
It should not be administered to patients with hypocalcaemia (little calcium in the blood). The tablets should not be used in patients with abnormalities of the esophagus or who cannot stand or sit with their backs straight for at least an hour.
