Biatain Fiber with HexaLock Technology is an absorbent gelling fiber, for highly exuding wounds, sloughy wounds and cavity wounds including undermining. It is a soft, sterile primary wound dressing made of non-woven sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) fibers with bicomponent (BiCo) fibers and a thermobonded net added for strength. Biatain Fiber supports autolytic debridement and desloughing which promotes the wound healing process.
One important function of a gelling fiber is its ability to retain exudate, ensuring it does not leak back into the wound or on to the periwound skin. The unique HexaLock Technology integrates the gelling fibers in a reinforced hexagon net, giving Biatain Fiber strength to lock in exudate to reduce exudate pooling for optimal healing conditions.
If a gelling fiber shrinks when absorbing exudate, gaps between the dressing and the wound bed create space for exudate pooling. Upon contact with exudate Biatain Fiber conforms to the wound bed. Due to its HexaLock Technology the dressing maintains its shape, minimising the risk of gap creation and exudate pooling.
Caring for wounds where gelling fibers are indicated is already a challenging and time-consuming process. This challenge increases if the wound dressing disintegrates, requiring a piece by piece removal and creates uncertainty if all residue has been removed. Biatain Fiber forms a cohesive gel that ensures an easy one-piece removal with minimal risk of leaving residues in the wound.
In highly exuding and sloughy wounds, place Biatain Fiber in the wound and gently press to ensure close contact. The dressing will then conform to the wound bed and the wound edges. Further instructions will be inside packaging of dressing.
Biatain® Fiber is not intended for use within internal body cavities or within closed wounds. Do not use if package is damaged as sterility of the dressing may be compromised. Discard any unused portion of the dressing as it is no longer sterile. A health care professional should frequently inspect and manage infected wounds, diabetic wounds and wounds which are solely or partially caused by arterial insufficiency, in accordance with local standards. In case of allergic reactions, please contact Coloplast for further information and directions. Warnings and Precuations can be found inside the item leaflet inside the packaging.
